How do you know when the wax is melted and ready to use?

I usually leave mine on for 20 mins and when you slide it on the part you want to wax it shouldn't feel tough or hard to slide. The wax should be liquid enough to slide on equally without you having to tug on your skin

Can we use hard wax to heat in this?

You can only use wax cartridges that go inside the heater. They are specifically designated for these heaters. Epil Wax and Bella Donna honey type is the best

Can we use different wax to fill the cartridge?

You can definitely use any type of wax cartridge to put in the cartridge heater. I personally use from Bella Donna and Epil Wax. They have different types of wax though. I recommend using honey only as it is THE BEST.
