Outstanding sight removal tool for Mini 14 and Mini 30!
I bought a new front sight for my Mini 30 (as the thick sight definitely leaves something to be desired) and the instructions that came with it, recommended "tapping" the factory sight off with a piece of wood... After three days of soaking in penetrating oil, heating the sight and hammering on it with 3 pieces of wood (which were all destroyed even though I was being careful not to bend the barrel), I found this tool. The company shipped it to me in about 2 days and I had my front sight off about 30 seconds after I opened the packaging. Even if I never use the tool again, it was totally worth the $17 I spent. However; I have a Mini 14 that I would like to put a new sight on, so it is doubly worth the money. With the new Rugers, the sight is pressed on over a varnished stainless steel barrel, and I don't know how much pressure is applied, but there is no way that thing was coming off by "tapping" it with a piece of wood. This is a GREAT tool, and if you need to get the factory sight off your mini, I strongly recommend you buy it! I'm going to post about it in all those forums where people are discussing the "tapping" method. Why risk damaging your barrel when this tool will take the sight off very easily with no damage to the barrel, or the sight! Thanks to Amazon for bringing us such a great product, and thank you to Rational1 for your quick shipping and great service! I couldn't be happier!

Worked for what I needed.
I got this to remove the front sight assembly from a spare SKS barrel, not a Mini 14. Still worked exactly as described and shown in videos. I ended up using an impact driver to get the extra torque needed, as I didn't have a vice grip, and that ended up stripping a bit of the threading. I will say, based on previous reviews, I thought that the head of the bolt was square, but ended up being the standard hexagon, and the bit needed was 19mm, which I had several.Overall, perfect for my needs, and would recommend.

A great tool
If you want a tool that is easy to use and will not damage your barrel or the sight you are removing this is for you. I read several of the stories on some of the mini 14 forums about heating the sight and beating it off with a hammer, and 1 about using a dremmel tool and cutting through the sight band. My advise would be spend the $20 and do the job right without damaging a gun I am sure you are proud of.

Worked great
It worked excellent on pulling a very tight front sight off of my Rancher Mini-14.

Works great on factory sight
Works great. Tried old school with block of wood and hammer but would not budge, bought puller, came right off.

A good product that performs well!
We work on many firearms and occasionally have to remove the front sight from a Mini 14. I finally threw in the towel and invested in the MATRIX PRECISION PARTS front sight removal tool. I wish we had done this long ago. What had been a difficult job turned into a very pleasant experience. From beginning to end the sight was off the rifle in less than five minutes.

Cheaper way to do it.
You can do it just as easy using a block of wood and a hammer. The sight is snug but I removed mine using the wood as a buffer to keep from marring the metal and tapping it with the hammer. Replacement is just as simple. You can do this to line up the sight to the hole for the spring pin.
