Great for daylight
The other reviews have their merit, but for what it is, its a satisfactory solution. The use case was that someone with a good enough camera of 24-200mm needs a 400/800 zoom. Most of the time the resolution on a 24-200 is detailed enough, but there are those small cases where distances needs to be captures. This PowerShot Zoom is small enough for my front rig or in a pocket. I purchase this with the mentality of using both my 24-200 for the wider shots and the 400/800 for those focused distance shots of animals and objects.Where it doesn’t do so well is in low light conditions, such as night/ moonlight/ and early morning. There is too much noise that the sensor will put on the photo. Best uses are when the subject is fully illuminated.I will agree with a few folks that a spare batter might have its place. But USB-C charges devices quickly enough that I may not be much of a problem. The interface takes some getting use to. The phone interface with an IOS device is so far easy and manageable. I use the word manageable because it took more than 5 minutes to figure out rather than being 5 seconds.

Don't waste your money
First one came defective out of the box, it wouldn't charge or turn on. Second one is doing the same thing after 6 months. When it was operational the picture quality was poor and the zoom was weak. overall this unit is junk.

Not bad if you take it for what it is
Not a bad monocular, it is not a high-quality Digital SLR with a 5000$ lens on the front of it. The image quality is Good, not great, the video is good but not great. It's good for a day at the lake, or to take out Birding. I'm impressed with how fast it turns on. The menus are a little tricky to get used to. My number one complaint is the lack of manual settings. I would like a manual focus most of all. then settings for exposure. But that said it is not too bad so far.I don't like the fact that I had to provide my own charger or the fact the cable they give you is a usb-c to usb-c cable. I took it out and of course, I didn't have a USB-C port on my battery back. Simple to remedy but really I feel I should not have to.Wishes for the next model: I would love a Tripod mount, I would love a manual focus. the 100/400 jump in focal length is okay, makes it simple but might be nice to have a couple other steps for some. I'd love the optics to go a little further out to say maybe the 800 before zoom. An integrated lens cap would be nice but might make it too clumsy. A case or belt holster would be nice too. Oh, and it might be nice to shoot RAW files, the jpg files average about 3mb or less each, I would love more detail but not a deal-breaker as I said you have to accept this for what it is.It's not for everyone, but if you want a good monocular that lets you take pictures and video then this is decent. I could not find anything better for twice the cost. The biggest thing I dislike is the lack of manual focus but I challenge you to find me a digital monocular that has as good of a camera that has one.I bought this thinking it was a toy and I might be returning it. However, I was nicely surprised. It's earned a place with me when I do walking in the park to watch birds.

Canon can do better than this!
A light and portable device, functions like a miniature spotting scope. Offers a combination of optical (100-400x) and digital (800x) zoom, image stabilization, autofocus, built in camera. But the software is clunky and the quality of the photos is very poor. I have used the device for the past couple weeks on daily walks through a wildlife sanctuary, it works, sort of, but is barely usable. Suggest wait for next generation of this kind of device. Canon can do better than this!

Design has not caught up with concept
The Canon Powershot Zoom is a good concept - lightweight, strong zoom, simple to operate. Unfortunately the design has not caught up with concept. There is no continuous zoom - only 100mm, 400mm and 800mm. This makes it difficult to get the desired shot of objects in the in-between distances. And shooting into dark or shadowy areas is almost impossible. The weight of the camera and one handed operation is both a blessing and a curse. The concept is that they make the camera more convenient to carry with you and to grab and shoot. However, even the most novice photographer know that movement is amplified by zoom. At 800mm even the slightest movement becomes extremely noticeable. This camera is so light it is virtually impossible to hold it stable enough with one hand to get a decent photograph at 800mm. And there is no other way to stabilize - no tripod mount. I was specifically looking for a small camera with a powerful zoom to augment my Canon D5. I was so disappointed in the Powershot Zoom I am looking at cameras other than Canon for the first time since I bought my AE1 in 1969. The Powershot Zoom may fill the needs for some photographers, but compare your needs and the camera's abilities very carefully before buying. I did not.

Simple and elegant birders camera
I’m a birdwatcher who has been on a quest for the best camera binoculars- affordably -for years. I only recently asked if camera monoculars were available. I’ve been thrilled with this Canon- lightweight, small, easy to use and excellent optics and photo quality. I’m recommending to my large family of birders.
