Q: Does this crystal ball have to be stored in its box when not in use or does the lion stand protect it from negative energy

It is a decorative item. There is no negative energies. Do you store all your knick-knacks on the shelf in a box while "not in use"? Why not your TV and your hair dryer, I mean in that case, they might pick up bad energies, too. Same principle. It's a glass ball, to look at. Use it... for what exactly? Its use is bringing beauty to your home. It can't do that if it's stored. JMO.

Q: Is the ball transparent? I want to use this for photography shots and was wondering if it was clear enough for clean shots.

It is clear, but it is solid. Very nice!

Q: What Is This Made Of?

@ELGIN: Stop spreading FALSE INFORMATION! Nowhere does this honorable seller say "Quartz"! Perhaps you are confused as "CRYSTAL" does not mean quartz!!! Ever hear of crystal glasses? How about leaded crystal? Do you also fancy they are made of natural rocks? Wrong! A crystal ball is a crystal ball. A quartz ball is a crystal quartz ball. NOT the opposite!!! One has to be super ignorant about crystals and minerals not to know that pristine, flawless glass-looking crystal balls are made of just that: glass. There is no such thing as these colors in nature! There's enough bad sellers out there, why do you tarnish the reputation of good sellers out of your own ignorance. Re-read my post above to find out where YOU went wrong! Quartz always has inclusions... particularly at this price! If it were 100% flawless quartz, you'd be paying in the $1000's for this.

Q: With this stand am I able to put a light underneath it so that the crystal ball can light up?

If it's a small light, yes. There is about 1.75" of vertical space under the ball. I was able to fit a battery operated tea light size candle perfectly (though it wasn't bright enough).
