Functional and Excellent
I don't know what "sheerness" means with respect to ball-pen refills. Capitalized, it's a seaside town in Kent, uncaptialized it's something to do do with stockings, however I've given this 5 stars, because these are good.I've given 5 stars for "thickness" too. It says its a medium thickness nib, and its seems to be just that. These fine items with a little plastic Parker adapter, which means that that old Parker biro found in a deceased relative's effects, 40 years old, and with a dried-out and dribbled refill, can be given a new lease of life. In fairness to Parker, the original refills are not actually intended to last 40 years upside down at the bottom of a drawer, stay working and not leak, so you can't really blame them.Space pen refills are intended for durability, indifference to gravity, and effective sealing. I can't say whether they will last 40 years, the last space pen I bought was only 30 years ago, and its probably at the bottom of a drawer somewhere, and (if I ever find it again) I'd be amazed to find it didn't still work. For the pen-conscious, you can refurbish and upgrade a classic pen to better-than-original spec and consider yourself fashionably retro. For cheapskates, you can get a classy old biro working again to give yourself a wholly-spurious appearance of sophistication, and save yourself the effort of acquiring nasty little disposables from Argos, betting shops etc or even (shudder!) buying a packet of cheap'n'nasty supermarket pens. For people like myself, who leave pens on any available horizontal surface, keep them loose in their pockets, or in that ash-tray thing in the car with the corroded change for parking meters and decomposing sweets and still expect the pen to work, a space pen is ideal. They can be kept under grotty conditions, will write on grotty surfaces, and they stay working.I bought three of these to resurrect a trio of my Dad's old Parkers from the 70s. I can see one of them on the desk at the moment, but dunno where I have left the other two, but I am confident that, when I find them, they will still work. On that basis, space pens are good value for money, so I gave them five stars for this. Functional and excellent, as I said in the title!

My go-to workhorse pen.
I've been using fisher pens for a few years now since I was introduced to them by a colleague at work. My job involves writing in paper notebooks in all sorts of weather conditions - from freezing temperatures, to peeing rain. The way the fisher cartridges are designed means that these write even on wet paper, at any angle, and in the lowest of the low temperatures. And before any smarties-pants suggests I use a pencil - i'm not allowed to!!I initially used these in proper branded fisher barrels, however I have found that I prefer the feel in my hand of some of the parker pen barrels. These cartridges come with a little plastic attachment which means they fit perfectly into the parker pen barrels with no issues. My gripe with the fisher barrels is that they tend to be a bit over-designed - probably in an effort to make them more reminiscent of the space race, often at the expense of writer's comfort! They last for months and months of daily writing too, so actually quite good value, since you're more likely to look after it and use it to the end rather than being careless with a disposable! These come in a plastic blister pack, mounted on card, for anyone interested in how these arrive.

Good, reliable work-horse of a pen refill.

Useless
Dried up after less than a day. I was really quite shocked after all the blurb about the excellence of space pens etc.. Put it down to experience.Never believe the blurb!

Good for its purpose
Good refill for EDC purpose. This works in Fisher pens AND all pens using Parker style refill. There is plastic spacer with Parkers typical crown in package. When used in place of Parker refill, this makes pen a bit noisy/clicky when texting (raising the pen and lowering it back to paper), as spacer is not fixed to shaft of refill. I glued the spacer firmly in place, as i know that this will not be used in Fisher pens.Writing with this looks like el cheapo ballpoint pen. But that is not the point. It will write in harsh conditions, like cold, when other pens don't work. Not good for writing in comfort of your desk to good paper, there are tons of better solutions for that.
