Q: So is there a problem with leaving this in longer then 30 hours? I wasn't getting fully formed balls and left in in for 40 and I had perfect results.

You can risk cracking the inner water reservoir. Typically they should be frozen in 24-30 hours, any longer you risk freezing the water entirely which can cause it to expand and crack.

Q: what size are the ice balls?

My daughter and wife told me I had to stop telling people about my ice balls. Now I call them ice spheres :) They are 2 1/2" The system works great.
