These are the best bang for your buck you can get. They're great pencils, durable, and relatively inexpensive. Importantly, they advance the lead less per click than cheap pencils, so you don't end up going from almost no lead exposed to too much. These are my go-to pencils for my wood shop.

these are pretty nice technical pencils. not 100% sold on the long taper at teh tip (reason for knocking a star off) but i have to say, i think these are better than the flagship gg1000's. imo, the retractable tip is a bit of a gimmick and doesnt make up for the lackluster design as far as feel and comfort goes. the 500's seem to get much closer to the mark as far as feel and comfort.

I have a set of GraphGear 1000s, but I wanted a set that wouldn't be so darling that I'd be willing to travel with them. These fit the bill.Slightly better than usual mechanical pencils, but no real frills. If you need a beginner set of drafting pencils, this is a solid choice.

Now I have to practice more, these show how bad I am at drafting up plans

I started using mechanical pencils in about 5th grade (note: Nixon was still President), and have tried various models over the years. I stumbled across these some years ago, and they are the best. They are comfortable and well balanced. I’ve had no issues with them failing. Generally, I like the 0.5mm, but will use other sizes depending upon the job.
