Bright and simple to fit - sort of
It's nice a bright and simply requires two spring clips to be screwed to the ceiling, and then the light clips securely in - BUT - one thing may cause issues for certain installations. I suspect many people will be replacing old failed flu fittings and this is slimmer and brighter. The snag is that flu fittings, being much deeper had the connection inside the housing. The old chock block fitting just sat inside. Now we have more modern connectors, but they would be fine inside. This fitting has no inside! On each edge is a slot running the length - about 6mm wide and deep and the unit has a pre attached and non removable two core (not 3) flexible cable. this runs in the slot with the intention that it goes through the ceiling and termination is done above. A couple of wages, pop through a suitable hole and the FT+E (no earth) sits in the cavity. In my case the ceiling was painted, but the new fitting cannot be centred on the hole, the hole must be offset to one side to allow the fixture cable to sit in the slot - revealing a strip of unpainted ceiling. I had to extend the hole, luckily on the right side of the joist, so it worked. Had the joist been on the other side, the unpainted section would have been visible. The fixture is bright, well made and I'd buy another, but the cabling isn't made very obvious.

Nice, bright light!
I used this light to replace a single, cheap bulb that had been put up previously in the loft. It is very bright whilst coming in a sleek yet long form factor. Provides ample lighting in a low-weight package. Easy to put up and hopefully it will last me for years to come! Very happy - not much more one can add, since it's a light that switches on and off!

4 Star at best but not bad
I have read several reviews about these LED lights and even submitted a question prior to purchasing. I have had these 10W 1ft lights working in my loft for a few months now and feel I have enough insight to off an informed review. For further context, I did try out another brand but scored it much lower than these V-TAC battens.Light OutputExcellent. They are very bright and relatively true to their spectrum. I got 8 of the 6400k daylight ones for the alcoves in my loft and I intend to fit some bigger ones for the centre section. They are really quite effective from a luminance point of view and the diffuser means they don't have that blinding glare of bare LED lightsDo they overheat?I read a 2-star review that warned about the fire hazard potential of these LED lights but have to say I have not experienced any overheating even after prolonged use of many hours. It could be down to my loft having better air-flow than the cupboard use-case reported by the other reviewer. They were sort of warm to the touch but certainly not hot. I will check them again as we move into the summer months during which time the loft does get very warm.Do they buzz?Yes they do, and there is probably a good reason why. I have attached a picture of the innards of the light - the control and switching electronics responsible for "reducing" the incoming mains voltage to a low enough voltage for the LEDs to operate correctly without going up in smoke. This technology alone is capable of producing the buzzing noise if any part of that "switching" ends up in the audible spectrum of the human ear.The circled part in the first picture attached is a component (transformer) that has been glued down to the case. The location of the adhesive, the amounts and application were all variable ranging from none to impressive meaning it was left to the assembler to pretty much decide on this. This is bad practice from a quality control point of view. They should all be done the same as instructed by the designers. It is my suspicion that the buzzing comes from this component for one or more of the reasons aboveEasy to Fit/InstallYes and No.Yes, the mechanical fittings are reasonably easy to screw to your desired surface and the lights then clamp on and can be prised off if necessary. No, the cable supplied is short - way too short that there's precious little you can do with it as is. Your first course of action is almost inevitably to extend it somehow. I wondered why so short cable and this had me looking at the CE mark uneasily, but that is a very long discussion for another day on another forum.Electrical connectionThe length of the cable and its exit point were a huge problem for me and was the reason I ended up opening all of my LED lights to do a modification. I used a Dremel to drill and clean a cable size hole at the locations shown in the second illustration to get the cable out and into a connector. Moving the cable did in some instances cause the transformer to become detached from its adhesive - a little too easily if you ask me. This of course voids all warranties so I wouldn't recommend doing this unless this (warranty) is not high on your list of prioritiesA note to the manufacturerThis is a good product with good brightness levels and seems to work well. It is reasonably priced for what it is but there are some improvements that can be made1 - Consider offering an option where the cable comes out the near side of the unit. This will mean it breaches the 1ft overall length but provided this is made clear in the options list should be manageable2 - Consider doing something about either the power supply switching frequency or the bonding of the inductive elements securely to the case or indeed both to eliminate the buzzing sound. Whilst not really an issue, it can be a little disconcerting for some.3 - Get Manufacturing and QC involved in the production process to ensure there is consistency in product assembly. There is so much variability that it looks like these are not coming off a production line but rather, are kits sent out to home based assemblers4 - Consider supplying a longer cable.Overall, a good LED batten light that seems to work well but it would be good to see an improved version from a manufacturing point of view at some point - soon.

Can I give this 6 stars please?
Just wow. So bright, so fresh, and so nice!Like many gentlemen of a certain age, I tinker on old stuff and fixing stuff a lot in the garage in the dark winter months, and my 2 strip lamps over the workbench are actually not in the right place, (not right overhead), and are pretty dim, and take around 30 seconds or so of flash flash flash, and then "plink" they are on.This new LED light gives you light quality equal to out-doors on a summers' day, and an even light from the whole length of the strip - meaning no shadows on my workbench.Fitting it took literally 30 seconds, as it is soooo easy to put up. It comes with 3 clips which you screw in to a supporting beam above, and it comes with the screws you need, (plus rawl plugs in case you are going in to brick or similar). You then clip it in place. It comes with about 1m of flex, meaning you can put it up, and then wire it whilst it is in place, (bye bye saggy cables). A couple of cable-clips nailed in place and you're done.Things I'd prefer? 1m cable was an unexpectedly nice addition, but for me, I was 2m away from my power source - so I had to get extra cable anyway. This lamp comes with a handy cable-clip to join the wires without soldering or jointing, however it was a bit flimsy for my liking, (the rest of the lamp is rock-solid construction BTW), so I didn't use their clip for the cable, and used a proper joint connector to be nice and safe for the decades of use this lamp will surely provide.I already look forward to pottering and fixing things, (fixed my son's laptop screen the other day, and an iPod doc, and even did some welding of a piece of agricultural equipment last weekend). However this new lamp makes it even more of a joy. Could not be more delighted with this, and at this price, it is amazing. No idea how long it will last - but my guess is "ages".

Replacement for another LED light
Current LED strip light in my workshop failed. Went for this one as it was relatively cheap and gave decent Lumens. Not the best energy rating but for what I use it for it will definitely do. Easy to install. Looks good. Decent size. All in all very happy with it.

Does as it says it does
Super bright replacement for the florescent tube, works well and lights up the garage more. Great value for the money, speedy delivery, thanks
