Q: Making hard cider and carbonating will these be ok with corks or will they blow off

I use these bottles for wine and I am very happy with them. I have never made cider, but dabbled with "sparkling wine" (natural carbonated). Yes, the corks will blow off for sure. I doubt if this particular bottle is designed to withstand internal pressure of carbonation. I would look for a curved bottom type at least or a champagne bottle at best to do the job.

Thank you for your inquiry. The wine bottles are designed for use with standard straight corks. If you have a hand corker we recommend #8 x 1 3/4 corks. If you are using a floor corker we recommend #9 x 1 3/4 corks.

Q: why do the have flat bottoms?

Cheaper bottle and easier to clean for reuse. The raised bottom bottle is for sediments from the wine.
