Q: may be a silly question, but what about the hatch light...doesn't it stay on when open and won't you run your battery down when using one of these?

We found that in our car, even if we turned off all the interior lights, that if the tailgate or door was open the car's computer continued to be awake and the battery would drain. (Discovered this by leaving the car open overnight in the closed garage while packing and preparing to go camping. Gotin the car to leave and it wouldn't start!) We now leave the side doors shut, and if the tailgate is open, we 'fool' the car into thinking it is shut by tripping the latch with a screwdriver or the tip of a key.

Q: Will this fit a Toyota Prius hatchback?

I am unable to fully extend the hatchback on by Toyota Prius 2012 as it pulls the tent away from the car. I have to tie a rope to make the hatch close about 8 inches, then it fits. I would go with the larger tent If I had it to do over again. As I had already scotchguarded the tent before a realized this. Otherwise I would have sent it back.

Q: Wouldn't the car battery run down if the hatchback is left open?

On my 2018 Tiguan, I was able to trick the car into thinking the hatch was closed by flipping the latch on the hatch side with my finger. Just make sure to flip it back to the open position before closing the hatch later. I had to go to the dealer and figure it out with them (one of the quirks of having a VW).
