Open two of the cases and flip the magnets then replace the covers and install
First things first I did a lot of digging and realized that the magnets definitely have to repel each other before you put them around the pipe. The way that these are made or the way that they are shipped is just wrong. I still give them a five-star but you're going to have to get a small tool of your choice, I had a small flat-head screwdriver and I pried open the inside of two of the magnetic cases and flipped the magnets inside. Now all the magnets repel each other. I don't know much about magnets I'm just trying to reduce the brassiness in my hair. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what needs to be done in order for the magnets to do their job.

Best for city water use in tight spaces
Small profile for tight spaces. Zip tie brackets allow use on different size pipe. We use these on city water to reduce scale and soften it for easier removal.

Didn't work for my problem
I have never had this problem but once I moved to the Savannah area, everyone is dealing with this situation! My sister (who lives in Tennessee) swore by these magnets. Sadly, she must have a different kind of water problem because they didn't work for me. These photos show my two toilets with before and after next to them. Of course, after each "before," I scrubbed out the toilet bowls so they were nice and clean. Then I installed the magnets (easy peasy) and waited a week. Sad to say, these magnets didn't fix my problem. It would've been nice, but I'm still looking for a solution. Thankfully, the return is easy and I appreciate that.

The science of it seems like it should work
I installed this three months ago, the taste of my water improved, unknown if this did it or something the city did, but I still have water spots and some white buildup is not going away. The science of it seems like it should work, but at this point in time it is unknown if it does what it claims to do. I have even put two of these on my water inlet line to see if it helps. I'll post more if I see an improvement.

Really work, but.
This item really work But don't install it on the iron/galvanize pipe as it will dislodge the scale that has build up in the pipe and release it into your water supply. What is dislodge from the pipe can contain concentrated harmful materials and cause trouble. If you have re-pipe your house piping with new copper pipes, then there should be no problem. But if the entire house piping has not been replace with copper pipe, the section with old iron pipe can contain build ups that can release into the water supply. Thus place it on the copper pipe section only and not on the old galvanize section. Do not use this on old galvanized pipes due to these reason mentioned. Otherwise it really work.

They work
I live in the Ozarks with super lime water. Bought 2 packs and put 1 pack at the pump and 1 at the house. They don't remove lime completely but is now way better. Screens on faucets , shower head, toilet, dog stainless water dishes all 90% better. Gets warmer weather I'll check my water heater elements. Hope it works on them cause they are a pain. Coffee pot is better also. Would get lime build up around faucet handles, not now. what was there came off by just wiping off the sink. We had lime all over but way less now. Way cheaper than a water conditioner. Gotta give em some time. I've had em about a month and a half. Give em a try. I don't know about other stuff in the water but they help with lime. Soap is better too. I did say well water didn't I ? I am happy with purchase.

Working so far.
I've had these installed on the PVC water pipes for a while now and they seem to be working well.We originally had a much more expensive "in line" magnetic conditioner that was damaged in a pressure surge requiring it's removal and preventing it's reuse..Our water is very hard and before installing a magnetic water conditioner we had to clean lime build up out of an electric hot water heater roughly every eight months, with the magnetic conditioner the period between clean outs jumped to well over 5 years. After losing the original conditioner we replaced it with a set of these and so far this set appear to be working as well as the single more expensive in line version.
