Where were you months ago!! Wish I had found this earlier!!! Awesome product. WAY better than a cone.
I got this for my lab who has a hot-spot on her front leg. She licks it until it bleeds. When I bandage it up, she sneaks off and eats the bandages. I've tried various cones, but she hates them. Those cones impair her vision and she just shuts down and won't move at all. With this collar, it not only keeps her from having access to lick her leg/hot-spot, but she's been much more receptive to wearing it (pretty much) 24/7 while her wound heals. She does not hesitate to get up and follow me around, and she even will jump up and off the bed with it on. I just wish I had found this option earlier. Now, there was one issue that I had, and that being the red flat-strap that is included with the collar. It was not long enough to go around her. So I cut it off. That worked fine for a day or so until she figured out how to get the collar off. So I then drilled a 1/2" hole in the collar (right about where the red strap was originally attached) and threaded a soft rope thru it, reattached the plastic clips that came with the red flat strap, and it works beautifully. Now she even can eat and drink with the collar on, and she's not touched her hot-spot in days. But I do recommend, if you can, taking it off every now and again...I do and she loves being able to rub her face/neck against my knee or the side of the furniture.I would definitely recommend this product!

A great idea, but not nearly ready.
My dog was neutered and sent home with a terrible cone of shame. He knocked things over, had a hard time getting out of his crate, and kept running the cone into things. Assuming that there were better things out there, I searched and found this device. I ordered it via Prime and it arrived very quickly.Sizing was easy and the size that I measured was the same as the suggested size on the manufacturers website (confirming to me that my measurement was correct). The device fit on easily and it was great! The dog could eat and drink and didnt run into anything. He could maneuver and yet, could not reach the surgical site. Awesome! However, I realized that it was keeping in moisture about 4 days later when I could see moisture in the clear plastic part. Worse yet, I noticed that my dogs neck was bleeding. This rubbed his neck raw. I've attached a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. We are, unfortunately, back to the cone. This is a great idea for a device and hopefully they'll work on it to prevent trapped moisture and rub injuries. Maybe some vents and padding will help.

Much Better than the Lamp Shade!
The vet gave us one of the traditional lamp shade collars after my dog's surgery. While it helped to keep him from licking the sutures, he was a one man wrecking crew knocking everything in sight over. An 80 pound weimaraner is crazy enough without the extra help. It was also marking up the walls from him running against them, and he was constantly trying to get it off by rubbing up against stuff. It made it difficult for him to go to the bathroom since he likes to sniff stuff up, too. Trying to kennel him while we had to head out and he broke out twice because he was freaked out.The vet recommended one of these, and it worked out great. He was a lot calmer with it and was able to have peripheral vision without knocking into everything. It helped him with bathroom activities, too. It wasn't perfect at preventing him from licking, but we kept the collar a little looser to allow him comfort. It's perfectly adjustable to allow for it. It also has leg straps that will keep a dog from kicking it off, although he still managed to get it off a couple times somehow.Definitely a 5 star product. Even though it's not completely inescapable, I think that many calmer dogs it will work to a tee. It's padded for comfort and doesn't have the thinner edges that can cause discomfort to your dog (or you). It made my dog a lot less miserable during his recovery, and ultimately making sure he wasn't stressed out was worth it.

Mostly great
I struggled a bit in deciding whether to tag this as 4 stars or five, but ultimately decided on 4 since I do have one concern:First, the good: Despite the fit being tight, this was a simply HUGE improvement versus a more standard Elizabethan collar (aka, "e-collar"). With the e-collar, my dog was constantly crashing into things, getting frustrated, swinging it all around, and thus crashing into more things. He would also run into my wife and me, and the edge of the e-collar was sharp and hurt. With this collar, there is no edge like that, and he has had substantially less stress with it on, which has allowed us to reduce his anti-anxiety medication. As mentioned elsewhere, this collar operates a lot like a whiplash neck stabilizer. Instead of providing a wide shield as the e-collar does, it provides a stiff brace for the neck that doesn't allow the head to twist back - protecting all parts of your dog except for the lower front legs and, conceivably, the rear paws. Although stiff, it is well padded and doesn't seem to create discomfort. I've read of other dogs suffering hot spots under the collar or at the edges, but ours has had no such issue. Do realize you'll want the collar to be pretty snug (but not so snug as to restrict their airway) around the neck to avoid them sliding out of it. If snug, the combination of the shoulders at the lower end, and the ears at the top end will hold it firmly on, with the chest strap providing a little extra protection against them sliding out of it.Two concerns (only one is particularly significant):1) Size-wise, we ordered based on a mix of breed and weight. The collar is, however, very, very close to being too big. It fits, but if the dog was a single millimeter shorter in the neck it would not.2) Durability. We're not entirely sure exactly when or how it happened, but we discovered the chest strap was nearly worn all the way through in 4 places. It appears to be some sort of friction tear/cut in the strap, but we're baffled how that would even happen on a long-hair, mostly sedentary dog. Our best guess is that the strap folded in on itself and was cutting itself apart as he walked, laid-down, etc.. My wife was able to cut a couple of pieces out of it and sew the strap back together and we'll be watching closely for similar problems in the future. There is an additional stretch band/velcro strap that wraps around the outside of it that also appears to have cut off for reasons unknown - this happened while we were away on vacation and we have no input from the person taking care of the dog to explain what happened, so one more concern. It took about 3 weeks for these two strap issues to happen. This latter strap concern is the source of me dropping to 4 stars rather than giving it a full 5.
