I’m a brown basmati rice snob
I prefer brown basmati to white basmati but my goodness is a good one hard to find. Trader Joe’s used to have a really good brown basmati but they’ve discontinued it. Most I find are overly processed and fall apart or get too soft. This one though is excellent. I cook it al dente, drain, and then steam on very low. Nice, fluffy, delicious with a wonderful aroma.

Grown in the fertile soil of the Himalayan region
I ordered this rice after the great arsenic scare of 2012, and I am not disappointed. For those that are not aware, US rice carries "1.4 to 5 times more arsenic than rice from Europe, India and Bangladesh. As I write this, I have a pot of lentil Dahl cooking, and I'll eat it with this rice.I was quite happy with rice grown in America, but they decided to grow it in ex-cotton fields that had been sprayed with arsenic...and even used chicken poop that contains arsenic to fertilize *organic* rice crops with (It seems feeding chickens arsenic allows them to grow faster. Your health doesn't matter, it is all about the benjamins). My favorite rice is a Lundberg organic, brown/wild rice blend. Is this rice as good as Lundberg's rice? Probably not, but the bar is set pretty high there. However, this is a good solid rice and I plan on getting more in the future. If anyone would like to know what the tag attached to the bag says (you can see it in the picture), this is what it reads:Bombay Original - Basmati Rice is grown in the fertile soil of the Himalayan region. the cool clean mountain air, abundand streams and rainfall create the perfect growing conditions that give this premium Basmati rice its special flavour and firm texture. Basmati rice is low in calories, contains no sodium, and no cholesterol. Enjoy it in good health.

Very good rice!
I cooked a small amount of rice and ate it hot out of the pan and it had a slight delicate burlap nutty flavor that I throught was good.I also made a large pot of the basmati rice and let it cool in the refigerator. I ate it the next day and could not taste the nutty flavor that was there with the newly cooked rice.

I bought it as a gift for my daughter in law and she loved it. This is my second purchase of the same product.

Long grain brown rice that smells like burlap
I was excited to finally find a bag of basmati brown rice and was also pleased to see that it was contained within a plastic bag within a reusable zippered burlap bag. My package even arrived days earlier than promised. Unfortunately this brown rice had NO BASMATI aroma to it. Instead, no matter how much I washed it (five minutes under running water and rubbing between my hands), it smelled like the old burlap bag that contained it. For the uninitiated, an old burlap bag smells like a unkempt public urinal. Even while I cooked it, there was no basmati aroma to be found, only the smell, (and eventually after it was cooked) the taste) of the burlap bag remained. How in the world can you offer this product in good conscious?. What a waste of time and money. Although the rice cooked perfectly, I couldn't eat it or serve this to anyone nor (as I found out) can I return the balance for my refund.Be forewarned. I know basmati rice, and this is not it. This is just LONG GRAIN BROWN RICE in a rank burlap bag. Don't be fooled like I was.AMAZON, you really should investigate your third party distributors. I've ALWAYS been pleased with any product I've purchased online from you, but this one bottomed out.

Much better rice for dishes without broth
This product was much better for the Chinese style rice I was making but without any frying. The smaller thinner rice lends itself to this. I like the thicker American style brown rice when I'm adding it to soup. But for Mexican or Asian dishes I think this works much better. It is a lighter and fluffier style of rice. Also it doesn't have that unpleasant perfume smell that a lot of other Basmati Rice's are marketed with.
