Q: is the shell hard and able to withstand travel or is it a soft material?

It is hard and also comes with a soft clear plastic protector to use on it while traveling to protect from scuffing.

Q: Has anyone flown with this? I’m curious about the craftsmanship when being tossed around by airport personnel.

I have flown with it, they did great except I did reinforce the handles into the baggage because I was afraid that the handles were a little fragile because I knew it would get thrown around but they have held up great

Q: How long is the handle when fully extended . Most seem to short
