NRSVCE, Illustrated Catholic Bible, Leathersoft, Black, Comfort Print: Holy Bible

This is my first Catholic Bible as I am in OCIA currently. It truly is beautiful but not too beautiful you don’t want to open it. It’s large and not a bible I will take out of the house but it’s a perfect family Bible. The paper feels soft buttery smooth, love the font it’s readable with good leading space. Not much ghosting, you won’t be distracted by words peeking through on the other pages. The pictures are cool to see what the imagery was like back in the 16th century. I love the single column it makes reading it easier on the eyes.

Ive got a collection of Bibles that I’ve piked up over the years and the NRSV is definitely the easiest to read. It still retains the reverence to the source material but the modern translation is much easier understand. The book itself is gorgeous with loads of illustrations. It is a bit large though, which may be an issue for some people. This is not a bible you can slip into your purse. It takes up a bit of real estate. Worth it though. Definitely worth it.

This is such a good Bible for teenagers as well. My sister thought the pictures were understanding.

Translation is good, layout and format is great. Paper and binding is great. Leather not top notch, but still very nice, and at this price point better than it should be. Really nice Bible. I wasn’t sure if I would like the illustrations, but I do. Not overbearing or cartoonish, very tasteful. Nice, unusual touch, at least for me. Lots of room for notes . Get it and enjoy it, buy an extra to give away. Catholic Bible Press finally got it right!

Beautifully designed. Easy to reference. Text easy to read. Light to carry and material easy to clean and care for.I would recommend to carry in back pack or Briefcase.

This is an excellent study reference Bible larger framed pretty well put together beautifully put together with references and illustrations though I’m not a fan of the particular translation in some cases such as Isaiah 7:14. I give this Bible of five out of five, but is not my favorite reference or study Bible there are far better.

The media could not be loaded. I LOVE THIS BIBLE IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE!! i’d say this is more for a older kid or a adult kind of bible and I am a adult and got it for myself !! amazing quality and arrived on time and so so cute!!

I'll start with the NEB version. Another reviewer objected to the Isaiah translation of a "young woman," but the Hebrew actually says that. Only in the LXX do we find "virgin."Basically a fine transl. The English flows beautifully and I find this Bible a relief after the dreadful, NAB which is an embarrassment. I wld , however, in serious word studies, go to at least the Greek, or to a more exacting version, as there are places that for the benefit of using modern English, render the text weaker than the original...If you are a mystic, a poet, or a theologian, you will want to compare.The illustrations thankfully, if a little stylistically exuberant, are quiet, and certainly in better taste than the horrendous Catholic art of many publications. They are "illustrative", but really not bad. Though the cover is some kind of plastic, it isn't tactilely bad. The gold edging with its little etched patterns is lovely!
