Yeah these come packaged with a VERY generous dose of oil all over them and they don't smell very nice either but apart from that i'm very happy with them. I bought a pair before and I don't remember them being this oily so your results may vary. Still a worthy purchase in my opinion as long as you don't mind the cleanup work required to remove the excess oil from them. Tossed them on the scale for a quick weigh in and each plate weighed 10.2 lbs. I intend to purchase several more of these and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for this style of olympic barbell plates.

Purchased the 2.5 LBS Pair for $24.99.These serve their purpose as easily holdable weights with rubberized coating. There's not much else to them.They do ship with a distinct odor and oil coat. Both go away after a few weeks of storage on a wall plate holder. Which lead me to my confusion about the reviews complaining.Are you trying to look at and smell the weights or lift them...? I mean, there are weird people out here I guess.What buyers should be more aware of is the price. $24.99 divided by 5 LBS is $4.998 per LB. Honestly, you're better off buying a complete set elsewhere to make the price worth it.I purchased because I already had a complete set and needed extra 2.5 LB plates to complete two pairs as most sets only come with one pair.

Love them. I really wanted 15 pounders since my new set went from 10 to 25 pounds. They did not smell when arrived, like the set I bought did. Very happy with these!!

I Bought the 2.5 lb & 5Lb.They came very well packaged, They are not oily, they don’t have a strong smell( it’s rubber…don’t expect your weight plates to smell like lavender), they look great & they are affordable!

I really want to love these. I bought size pairs 2.5 to 45 lbs. Not cheap, but the quality seems great and these wouldn’t be out of place in a commercial gym. The problem I have is the off gassing. Based on other reviews I first washed them with dish soap, then wiped them down with iso alcohol and kept them in the garage until they stopped smelling.After 6 months and two more wipe downs with iso, they still need to be kept it the garage. I tried storing them on a rack in my gym last week and having them inside overnight the strong rubber smell was just as bad as when I first bought them.Overall, if you have a garage gym these are wonderful. If your gym is indoors, beware the off gassing is very strong. Hopefully it gets better over the winter months, but so far from May to Nov they haven’t gotten better.Update: The company reached out and offered to make things right. I had originally called out the 10 and 25 lb plates for developing a thin powder coating after a few weeks. This seems to have stopped after the latest wiping about a month ago (Nov). The company asked for pictures after the latest wipe down. I’ll submit them if the coating develops again. I had the weights stored indoors for a week during the holidays and ended up taking them back to the garage as the smell was still too much for the basement gym. I’ve added a star to the review for the excellent customer service. These aren’t bad plates if you can handle the strong rubber smell. I may end up replacing them with non-rubber plates if it doesn’t improve after a year.

You get what you pay for - and these are worth every penny. I bought the 35lb plates (pair) - yes, they have some oil to protect them and I am glad they do. Easy enough to wipe off and I have honestly not noticed a strong smell. Weights are excellent quality - highly recommend.
