I would have given it a 5-star because I love the item that much. The only problem I have is the rust stains accumulating on the container that the trash can sits in. I don't know if this is a normal thing or if I received a defected item. I would like to know if anyone else is dearling with this problem?

This trashcan is made of black magic. It’s the only logical answer. I got this can for my small house where I keep 20+ reptiles and 2 cats… and I specifically use it for pet waste. Litter, soiled snake bedding, UNRINSED wet cat food cans, lizard poop… you name it. This can only fills up about once a month, so this stuff marinates for 30+ days… and you know what? MY ROOM SMELLS AS FRESH AS A DAISY. Idk how it works, but whatever scentlocking sorcery they put in this thing really, really works.I know the contents smell, too, because it’s unleashed every time I open the lid — but as soon as the lid is closed, its like it vanishes. PLEASE BUY THIS. I think I’m going crazy.

I needed to upgrade to a sturdier metal can, and was prepared to spend roughly $130. I was a bit skeptical because it seemed that although this can was of the same quality as similar cans in that price range, it was being offered for significantly less money, Well, you have my word that this can is every bit as sturdy and esthetically pleasing as its' more expensive competitors. All the moving parts are rigid and securely fastened, and it's all made from quality materials. The finish is smooth and luxurious. The plastic insert bucket is designed perfectly, with a hole in the front so you have a place to pull the excess bag into thereby allowing the bag to wrap snuggly around the rim. and fall neatly into the can. Seamless!

30 days later and the lid no longer closes softly. Slams. What a disappointment. And a waste of my hard earned money.UPDATE: yes after a month the lid suddenly started to slam shut, little did I know there is a rod, as shown in the pic, that was out of place. You want it to always be in the no slam position (see pic). In order for the lid to stay open all the time then you move the rod to the slam position, bit you then loose the soft close effects.It’s a good trash can. Easy to remove trash bags. Easy to clean and sturdy.

This is a very heavy, sturdy trash can, with a liner (we wanted the liner.)However, as others have mentioned, it has some problems. It's a 13-gallon can, but the usual 13 gallon bags that we've always purchased very economically for other 13-gal. cans , don't really work in it well. It's taller and more narrow, and it's hard to fit the bags into it so that they don't fall down. We will have to buy larger capacity and more expensive bags for it.Also - and again, as others have mentioned - the lifting mechanism at the top back of the can extends out about 1.5 inches, and makes it impossible to open the lid 90 degrees and make it stay open, unless you leave a lot of room between the can and the wall that it's against - about 5 inches from the can edge, and 3.5 inches from the mechanism on the back. This is a real problem, if you're doing lots of cooking and want to make the lid remain up; and this may impact where you can place it in your kitchen. (If you have a corner where you can place it catty-cornered, it might be ideal for you.)We like it in general; but I can foresee eventually removing the lid and mechanism so that it works more efficiently for us as a simple open trash can. We really need something more easy and efficient to deal with than this. We'll keep it, because it's too big and heavy to easily return.
