Simple install. No interference with tailgate opening or closing. Works as stated no more sudden dropping of tailgate on opening.

Shock
Directions are not clear enough for a DIY as an auto technician I was able to figure it out. The shock needs to be close to the pivot and the tool for the blind nut goes to the bottom of the gate close to the OEM bushing where the hole is. The upper goes by stricter than the shock is on the left side bottom almost straight up. Works great if installed properly!

Doesn't work on an Avalanche, sadly
I bought this product on a whim knowing that a 2013 Avalanche wasn’t specifically listed in the fitment details. It installed easy but the shaft isn't long enough (that's what she said?) to let the tailgate come completely down. Other than that, it operates very nicely and lowers the tailgate slowly and smoothly.The install was super easy and the rivnut thing holds very well. I might do an additional mod and move the upper plate down a bit to see if that helps but I'm not disappointed with the overall product.Great purchase that should be a factory item.
