Interlocking Gears Building Blocks Construction Set

A little young for a 7 year old, but he did much better when just making things on his own. Pieces are TINY TINY.

Seems well make and my nephew loves it. Great for little builders.

This was a gift I bought for my son who recently turned 4 years old. The idea of it is very cool. It has a battery operated master gear that turns all other connected gears. (You will need one AA battery and a small phillips head screw driver to put the battery in.) The colors are awesome, and the 3D design definitely draws you in.However, it is very cheaply made. The pieces do not connect easily and attaching the gears to the puzzle pieces is very frustrating. The gears attach with a small disc piece with 4 prongs sticking out of the bottom. Every puzzle piece has holes for attaching these discs. The fit is very tight and the prongs have to be perfectly lined up to fit. You would think you could just glide the prongs over the puzzle piece and they would slide in when they come in contact with the holes. This is not the case. My 4 year old did not have the patience for the tedious effort of lining up the prongs just right and asked me to help....I also struggled and became frustrated. In addition to the design flaw, this toy does not come with adequate storage. There are several small pieces that should have some sort of a sealable bag to be placed in when not in use. We were at a restaurant when he first opened it and played with it. The small stuff came in a generic plastic bag that gets destroyed when you tear it open. When we were done playing, we put everything in the box. With no bag to secure the small pieces, everything just rolled around in the box loose. The next day we opened it to play again and some of the pieces were missing. My guess is some things fell out of the gaps in the box ends during the transport home.I would not recommend this toy to anyone. Where it is a great concept and has the potential to be an awesome toy, the manufacturer really needs to work out the design flaws. I would like to see this remade with better quality materials and come with a means for storage. Until then, I would expect to find this toy for $7 at my local dollar store with the understanding that it will be a one-time use toy.

This is the worst thing I have ever purchased from amazon. The plastic is cheap, the interlocking pieces don't stay together, one of the gears is missing teeth, the monkeys and bears are split apart and the tips don't fit in the holes. I would not recommend it to anyone.

I wish it came with some directions or clues. I set this up with my 5 and 7 year old grandson, and we kind of got it to work in a basic fashion. It's something that you';d like to buy a lot more pieces but they don't go together very easily. It's difficult to get it set up and especially difficult to keep it working.I won't be buying additional pieces because of that, but maybe there are other brands that are made a bit better. Kids seem to like it, but think that they could get bored (as I did) because it's so difficult to get set up.

Fast forward a couple years, and as I was browsing Amazon, I find this Spinning Puzzle and Building Block Toy! As soon as I saw it, I immediately thought back to her love for that original similar toy from when she was younger. I decided to go ahead and purchase the Interlock Gears toy as a gift for her. The toy is rate 3+, and she is 3, so this should be a good match. You should have seen the look on her eyes when the puzzle arrived, she was so excited to give it a shot. She had an awesome time with the building blocks portion, and was able to put those together on her own. Then we got to the interlock gears, there unfortunately, is no way a little one is ever going to be able to line the small pegs on the gears, up with the small holes on the building blocks. Now, we didn't let this stop us, and I did all of the gear building (to be honest this was slightly more difficult for even myself to accomplish than I expected). She was slightly disappointed that she wasn't able to get the gears to go in right. Once we got all of the gears on, and she turned on the switch, all disappointment was gone, and she lit up with the biggest smile. Of course, about 30 seconds later she decided that we needed to take it all apart and start over, building another example that was in the pamphlet that came with it. (By the way, to the mfg, Children is not spelled Childen). All in all, my daughter loves the toy, just not quite as much as she would if the pegs / holes were bigger,This product was provided for free or at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
