Well Made Unusual Dinosaur
Great gift for a child who loves dinosaurs. Sturdy, realistic (I guess, I've never actually seen a real one), and a scary mouth with movable jaw that is perfect for scaring parents. A Dunkleosteus ate fish, sharks, and even its relatives. Better get a few small plastic aquatic creatures to keep it well fed.

This Funny Looking Creature
I purchased this for my grandson who lives in Miami. I don’t live in the same state so my son FaceTimed with me and my grandson’s expression was everything. This funny looking creature is everything you see in the picture. My grandson’s expression said it all. It win win for me!!

Visually stunning if scientifically imperfect Dunk model
I have the latest Dunkleosteus model on the market, and it's pretty amazing to look at - even if the science causes some head-scratching.The new model from Schleich boasts multipart construction with an articulated lower jaw and detailed mouth inside and out. The armor is likewise done in great detail, with countless scratches presumably from Dunk-to-Dunk combat. (We know cannibalism occurred in this species, so there was interspecific fighting, although this individual is much more scratched up than any known fossils.)The model is studded end to end with surface details, such as the vertical wrinkles on the right side of the body and left side of the tail (the fish is shown with the body bending, and the wrinkles match up). This Dunk is big, over 22 cm long, and studded with either tiny bones (osteoderms) or scales all over. (The animal probably had neither, but it adds texture and character to the model). We don't know what the tail looked like, but the model makers had to pick something, so they went with a tail with a large fin on the bottom. Likewise, we know it had to have pectoral fins, and these are large and well-detailed. We don't know if dorsal or caudal fins were large or small or exactly what they looked like. And the line of scutes along the sides is an invention as far as we know. Finally, we don't know to what extent the armor was visible, as shown here: some scientists think flesh and skin gave the animal a more streamlined look.Bottom line: a great addition to Dunk models.Matt Bille, curator, Dunkelosteus terrelli page, (...)

Mermaid approved!
I ordered this as a prop for my mermaid performance gig. I also have a background in marine biology and I use that to educate children about the ocean and it's long varied history of evolution and biology.I am very impressed with how detailed the model is. Even the inside of the mouth is sculpted. I have several other props that I have had to make myself. I am extremely detailed and make sure to make them as lifelike as possible. This definitely satisfies my need for accuracy and detail when it comes to props.I highly recommend getting this for any kid who loves fossils, sealife, or nature in general. The jaw is articulated and opens and closes. It is sturdy however, compared to some others that I have seen.
