Solid NVG for the money. An EASY buy.
I’ve been messing with this for about a week and I gotta say I’m impressed. I’ll start with the bad:1. The mount is sketchy. Super tiny thread screws, feels cheap, but so far it does its job.2. Figuring out how to get it to work right took a bit.3. There’s a calibration process that takes about 2-3 minutes. It’ll turn right on and work, but it does a lot of blinking and flashing. It makes you think it’s malfunctioning. But after a while a text appears that says “calibration complete” and it works way better.4. Because it’s a digital unit there’s a tiny bit of latency. If you look quickly left to right for instance, you’ll notice the digital lag. That’s literally all the bad. Here’s the good:1. You can see in the freaking dark. It really works!2. It has an IR illuminator that definitely works. Has three brightness settings. If you push and hold the right button IR turns on, keep pushing to cycle brightness settings.3. It has a zoom function. While IR is on (after pushing and holding the right button) press the left button to zoom in. You can cycle through 4 settings up to 6x!4. You can do a white phosphorous or green. Turn IR off, and push the right button to cycle between the colors.I bought the recommended airsoft bump helmet with the NV mount for this. Right at $400 for the whole rig. And I gotta say I’m REALLY impressed. Between the green or white color options, the IR illumination, and the zoom settings this thing is VERY functional. It’s difficult to navigate indoors and in tight spaces, but outdoors, hallways, doorways, bigger rooms - it’s a game changer. It allows you to see in extreme low light.Plus the ability to zoom in and look at something close up is awesome. You can even rotate the front lens to REALLY get a clear picture. I was outside and saw something about 80 yards away. I maxed the illumination, and zoomed in 6x and saw it was a dog. Super clear picture. Paired with an IR laser this will be awesome.Keep in mind this is kinda obviously intended for your right eye. You could set it up for the left, but it would be awkward. But overall, this is straight up night vision without spending 4 mortgage payments.

Works but not that good for a survival situation
I have purchased very expensive thermal and night vision devices so dropping down to this type unit needs adjusting my review to the price. For the price if this is all you can afford this is worth the purchase. I found very prolonged use is tough on the eyes so I suspect you would want to keep it flipped up unless needed. The other issue is you have to focus for the eye on one end and focus for the distance your looking at on the other. Once the eye focus is set you won't need to reset it but going from close to far viewing takes constant focusing. On the good side its great it connects to a helmet and it has IR settings. I would suggest getting the webbing to put a larger batter on the back to both balance the weight on the front and to give longer battery life. As far as seeing through dark trees I found it quite nice. Finally, if you can find a thermal priced about the same I would totally suggest getting that because it allows for a much quicker identification of animals and people. So in conclusion if this is all you can afford and want night vision this works quite well but its more difficult to identify things than the really good units. Good luck with your purchase

Functional and affordable
Is this an equal to a Gen 3 PVS14? No. Is this better than your naked eye and a flashlight in low-light conditions? Hell yes. When there is a full moon, this unit absolutely shines. It’s a bit funky to get used to and I had to use electrical tape to get the mount to not move so much. Idk about you, but I don’t like having a black eye after a night of hunting or Larping. If your image isn’t clear at first, mess around with the front and rear focus knobs until you get a clear image, and you’ll be golden. I can count the antlers on a buck with this thing at 300 yards without illumination on a full moon, and at 500 yards in pitch black with illumination. I live in a dense forest area, and this unit needs very little illumination in pitch black to create a high definition image. Of course it will need more as the distance increases, but for a ~$400 unit, it’s extremely solid.Don’t even bother with the WiFi feature. Don’t expect to have a wide FOV with this unit, as even professional NVG’s are like looking through a toilet paper tube. Battery life SUCKS, you’ll get about 2.5-4 hours max on one 18650 battery, depending on ambient temperature and how much you use the illumination. I recommend having multiple rechargeable 18650 units so you don’t get caught in pitch black with a dead unit. I also recommend running separate standalone IR illumination, as that will greatly extend your battery life. The zoom feature is fantastic; you won’t notice the drop in resolution until you’re at max zoom.Don’t try CQB with this unit. Just don’t. This isn’t optimized for fast or fluid movement; you have to take things slow and turn your head a LOT to be aware of your surroundings. The refresh rate on this thing also just isn’t there for fast movement. However, for observation, hunting, and slow, deliberate movement, it is PERFECT. It is what it is, it’s a budget $400 no-frills digital NV unit. It’s far better than so much else at and below it’s price point, and IMO it’s way better than a Sionyx Aurora for its size, weight, intended application of being helmet-mounted, and its compactness. If you’re looking for a budget digital NVG, look no further. 🤙🏽
