Nice block of burl

Technical description said that product was 8 x 13 x 2.5. Actual measurements were 8 x 8 3/4 x 2.5. Description with photo says 8 x 8 x 2.5.

This is about 10% burl, and about 90% curly and 'fiddleback' grain. I'm highly disappointed that I paid as much as I did for such a misleading product. From one of the large sides it has not one wave in the grains, it's just plain straight maple. Should've known better than to trust someone else's idea of a nice piece of burl. I will not buy from them again.

This was the most disappointing product I have purchased from Woodcraft so far. I purchased this thinking that it would be Burl. When I received it there was one spot of "birds eye". thinking that there should be some hidden character within the block it might be worth turning this block I did so. To my disappointment it ended up looking like plain boring maple. Waste of money this time.

Really great. A pleasure to carve by hand even though it feels as hard as stone. Might be better for turning on a lathe in that regard.To be honest I'm not sure I know enough about the technical definition of Burl to confirm that it isn't "curly" or "fiddleback" as other reviewers say. I suspect every piece is different as no two pieces of wood are the same.
