Walker'sXCEL 500BT Digital Electronic Muff and Protective Case Bundle

Relatively comfortable (in the Florida heat) and great sound suppression.
My old set of Walkers finally gave up the ghost (one of the muffs broke off). I probably could have repaired it but after 10 years I don't think they owed me anything. I tried a couple of the AXIL in ear options and found they did not fit well (maybe I have weird ears) and as such were uncomfortable and really didn't keep out the noise. These new Walker's XCEL 500BT are perfect for me. They suppress sound even better than my previous pair, are comfortable and amplify sounds and let me listen to ambient sounds and conversations perfectly while block out (almost completely) the shooting sounds (I'm shooting a Glock 21 in .45 cal). They do connect via blue tooth to my Iphone so that I can listen to music and take calls if I desire. If I have one complaint it is that the music playback is not very loud... of course that might just be the muffs protecting my ears from damaging rock music. These were a little pricier than the ones I had but they came with a nice case and, essentially, you get what you pay for.

Music at the range is nice
2 Reviewers (DLP & Luke) mentioned the case too small or using force to make them fit are liars. Use your brain ppl.Anyway....Like:comfortable (got a big ole head)Directional (the Walker Slim Quad-Bluetooth had 4 mics but wasn't directional, heard everything equally)]Music/Sound definitely better than the Walker's Slim Quad w/ Bluetooth.Easy instructions.listening to music in the range is nice.Dislike:none (my first semi expensive earmuff)In a span of one week I bought 2 Walker's Electronic Earmuffs. 1) The Slim Quad w/ Bluetooth and then the EXCEL 500BT.I liked the concept of having Bluetooth so I bought the Quads first. But soon enough I didn't like that it was NOT Directional even though it had 4 mics. So I went online and found the EXCEL 500BT and bought them a few days after.Went to the range today and with double protection (earplugs + earmuff) the music will sound low. I removed the (standard orange) earplugs and just used the earmuffs and they did great.

Christmas Gifl, Initial Impressions, Updated Below
Unlike some other brands, the Walker XCEL 500BT do not have the buzz or hum reported by other brands when using blue tooth. I have had that problem with other similar products and that is annoying as heck. The Walkers appear good to go.Comfort seemed nominal. I did not experience any pinching or excessive pressure points. This is GOOD.Sound quality is very good. There are 4 sound setting that all you to accentuate different parts of the spectrum, which is cool.Sound volume allows for what I call "super hearing." My Peltor Comtacs will do this as well, allowing me to hear noticeably better with the muffs than with just my unaided ears. A lot of electronic muffs will not do this. They get you to normal levels or less and for my hunting purposes, those are not ideal at all. The Walkers seem like they will be beneficial to my hunting.Blue tooth connectivity seems VERY GOOD. I could leave my phone in the back of the house and go into every room and still remain fully connected. I haven't tested the overall range of blue tooth (15 yards is as far as I have tried) as I don't want to be far from my phone, but the connection is strong.I had a bit of difficulty getting paired initially. It took me three tries to get things figured out and now my phone accepts the muffs as a trusted device, so no more issues.Buttons, lots of buttons, 7 in all. Keep the instructions or use frequently lest you may forget what button does what.Figuring out the battery compartment should have been a no brainer. It was not labeled and there were no instructions for opening. You DON'T pry or flip open like some. It is a sliding door. You grasp the sides of the door plate and it will open readily. Attempts from other methods or pressure points are not effective. ;-)There is a slight left ear increased level of hiss noted (muff, opposite side of controls) when in high pitch mode. It isn't my hearing. When I reverse the muffs, the hiss reverses sides.I start hunting with these tonight.---------------------------Update...The hiss in the left ear is very much real, a bit annoying but not horrible. Why there is an issue in one ear and not both is beyond me.Running bluetooth, I estimate that I got about 10 hours of run time from the muffs. This is broken up over multiple sessions and so this is just an estimate.Bluetooth connectivity is very good. I am not disappointed with this at all.Using the muffs to talk on the phone works well, also. The muffs are comfortable to wear.

My son is in the army and loves these
Of course for Texas ears and does so many other things to make shooting more accurate and enjoyable. Terrific product again my son loves it. Sound quality is awesome. He never runs out of battery life in the field.
