Does gps work without wifi or cell signal?

Yes. Navigation software that has offline maps and charts will work very well. We use our tablet for marine navigation far away from cellular connectivity.

Is this tablet compatible with sprint?

I've only used the wi-fi version, but can say that it ports well with all cell services including Rogers (canada) and AT&T
