Hammer Horror 8-Film Collection [Blu-ray]

Hammer Studios is one of my favorite's for Horror....Thank you Hammer Studios for the years of Fright n Horror.They are the Apex....

This is a great collection films that is extremely inexpensive and offers fantastic picture and audio quality. My only complaint is the lack of any special features, but that's a small price to pay for the value you're getting here!

If this is something that you like then get it. Physical copies are becoming more and more rare, but right now the prices are lower than they have ever been, so go for it. It is better to physically own the things that you like because then you can watch them whenever you want, and if you have kids or ever do end up with kids, you’ll be able to show them the fantastic things without having to worry about them finding stuff you don’t want them to see.

This is a great set of Blue Rays at a reasonable price. If you are a Hammer fan this is the way to go. I know that there has been debate on the film ratio. All I can say is that it did not come across is any kind of hinderance to my viewing pleasure.The DVD set of these films was a horror in it self for me as I had to get 2 sets to be able to see all of the movies. Universal did a terrible job with the DVD set and the discs would skip, stop, and digitize on certain movies. The Blue Ray does not have that problem.Now for some info on the movies. Evil of Frankenstein is a favorite of mine. Peter Cushing makes for a swashbuckling Baron in this one which shows a heavy influence from the 40's Universal horror movies. They even have the Monster frozen in an ice block. Well photographed and directed by Freddie Francis.The Phantom of the Opera was supposed to have Carey Grant is the Phantom. He pulled out and Herbert Lom did a credible job in the role. Hammer spent a lot more money than usual on the film and it did not light up the box office. Terence Fisher directed.Brides of Dracula again Cushing is here in the role of Van Helsing. Wonderful stuff this movie and it all comes together for a fine evenings fun. There is no Dracula but the Vampire in this story is not a bad replacement. A classic horror with out a doubt.Curse of the Werewolf another classic by Fisher with a young Oliver Reed in the lead. Hammer's only foray into the Lycanthropy genre. Great production and a well done tale.The Kiss of the Vampire.Two honeymooners are terrorized by a coven of vampires. Well done film not in the normal set up for a Hammer film which helps make it more fun to see. A real classic vampire film.Night Creatures is a swashbuckling pirate movie based on the tales of the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. Disney was also doing a version with Patrick McGoohan in the lead. Peter Cushing is in that role here and as usual he does an excellent job. The film is not a horror movie but is a good action movie from Hammer who did several of these.Paranoic and Nightmare are excellent examples of the Psycho genre of film. Both of them are in black and white and I enjoy them very much. Both deserve a viewing and I believe you will want to look up Hammer's other titles of this sort they made more than a few.

EVERY BODY is in frame.Rock steady picture, sharp clean audio sound and lush color.a little grain because of the IB tech neg. Overall amazing looking.CURSE OF THE WEREWOLFGreat transfer from a IB TECH original master neg.Cropped a little bit from top and bottom hardly noticeable . Bad news the entire girl’s bedroom scene when reed first turns into the werewolf and kills the girl, audio is out of sync. Lips are 1 sec. before the audio. Overall amazing looking. Also UNCUT.PHANTOM OF THE OPERAGreat transfer from a IB TECH original master neg.Cropped a little bit from top and bottom hardly noticeable . I'd seem most of these movies on Prime Video over the last few years. Picture quality is as good as the source allows, ranging from good to excellent. The audio is clear. The value is tremendous, 8 movies for $20.

Universal edita esta recopilación de 8 filmes del famoso estudio Britanico; Hammer.Presentadas las películas en una caja simple de plastico con barias bandejas donde descansan 4 discos de 50 GB los cuales a su ves contienen 2 películas cada uno. La copia que recibi tiene un pequeño slip cover con las letras algo resaltadas, es un buen simple que ayuda a la presentación visual. Mi paquete llego sin problemas y el paquete estaba en buen estado. Cada pelicula contiene audio sin perdidas en DTS HD master audio y tiene subtitulos en español e ingles.Audio: Me alegra reportar que las 8 películas sin excepción presentan excelente audio, eso si todas en mono, el dialogo es siempre claro y dinámico, particularmente me impresiono Phantom of the opera (1962) siendo un filme donde la música es parte importante de la historia, esta es reproducida con fidelidad y al menos mis oídos no detectaron ningún problema significante, ruido de fondo y los molestos "pops" estan prácticamente ausentes, mi única queja, y esto es un caso en el que estoy siendo increíblemente quisquilloso , pero siento que en este caso se merecia una mezcla al menos en 5.1. El resto de los discos presenta un caso similar, sin problemas reales.El video, es algo un poco diferente. No tengo pude encontrar mucha información al respecto pero a mis ojos parece ser que no en todos los casos el estudio tenia acceso alos negativos originales, por lo que la calidad de los transfers varia bastante de pelicula a pelicula a pelicula,, asi que hablare brevemente de cada una.Disco 1: Brides of Dracula (1960) y Curse of the werewolf (1961)Siendo en su mayoría películas de época, Hammer siempre sobresalió por el uso de sets y decorados bastante espectaculares, y las presentaciones en este caso hacen muy poco por defraudar esa reputación, ambos discos de ven excelentes, con buen contraste, reproducción de colores (Recordemos en uso de technicolor), las texturas son ricas con bastante detalle en los vestuarios, y los rostros, en el caso de Curse of the werewold, cada pelo en el maquillaje de Oliver reed viene ala vida de buena manera, no ve ningun ejemplo de ruido excesivo, macrobloques, o artifactos de la compresion, sin tengo una queja es que Brides, parece tener un aspecto un poco mas suave, pero estoy seguro que se trata de un problem con la fuente , no del transfer en si.Disco 2.The evil of frankenstein (1964) al igual que sus contrapartes del disco uno, esta presentacion solida, tiene la mayoria de las fortalezas de las otras dos peliculas, pero tambien unas cuantas debilidades, y eso es simplemente un ligero nivel de suavidad, pero nada de que preocuparse.The kiss of the vampire (1963) Este es quizas el mas desafortunado de los tranfers, no es terrible pero hay algo que no termina de conectar, hay algo bastante inconsistente, en ocasiones hay buen detalle y color, y en otros momentos las color se ve algo rato y el detalle es poble, esto se puede explicar por el uso de tomas compuestas, donde se agregan fondos, y efectos visuales al costo de reducir la calidad de la imagen original, es ligeramente decepcionando considerando la calidad de las presentaciones anteriores, aun asi comprendo que en muchas ocasione no se puede tener acceso ala fuente mas clara y en mejor estado. oh bien sigamos adelante.Disco 3: Phanton of the opera (1962) Otro ganador, no solo el audio es excelente pero la imagen no se queda atrás, las texturas y detalles en la producción son notables y de no ser por un poco de suavidad inherente de la fuente y del hecho de que es una película de mas de 50 años, no esta para nada mal.Paranoiac (1963) Sorprendente mente decente, aunque no perfecto, hay buen nivel de detalle con la ocasional toma con aspecto mas suave , el contraste es solido, aunque el nivel de negro a veces deja enterrados detalles en las sombras. pero la imagen es limpia y nada mas para una pelicula con bajo presupuesto y mas de medio siglo de historia.Disco 4:Night creatures -1962 (Conocida tabien como Captain clegg en algunos lados)La imagen es aceptable, con algunas fallas pero nada realmente terrible, la mayor fuente de inconsistencias es en las tomas de efectos, donde hay mucho mas grano y mucho menos detalle. Pero en general bastante pasable. Nightmare (1964): La ultima película del paquete es algo interesante, pues primero que nada el negativo no estaba en muy buen aspecto, no hay nada horrible, sin embargo la imagen esta llena de puntos y rallones, esto quizás no sea lo ideal para los videfilos, pero como yo lo veo le da una atmosfera única a la cinta, el uso de sombras pesadas y la imagen en blanco y negro dan la sensación de ver una película perdida en alguna bóveda de un cine viejo (cosa que probablemente sea el caso), aun así el grano se ve natural, y hay algo de definición aqui y alla.Para resumir; Es raro esperar una presentación estelar para un montón de películas que quizás no muchos conozcan, y aun asi en ocasiones el video es considerablemente espectacular y el audio es consistente en todas las películas. En mi opinión es un buen logro viniendo de un lugar inesperado, recomendado, si les gusta el horror clásico o si son curiosos.

Great collection from hammer with marvellous picture and sound.

An excellent selection of Hammer films ( three with Peter Cushing ), that will satisfy fans of the studio and the horror genre. Brides of Dracula is perhaps the best film here, but The Curse of the Werewolf, The Phantom of the Opera, Kiss of the Vampire and The Evil of Frankenstein all in glorious, gory colour are thoroughly enjoyable. Paranoiac, a contemporary story in black and white, is also vey effective, and along with The Curse of the Werewolf showcase the screen presence of the young Oliver Reed. Great horror hokum !

A great selection of 4 disc double features. All 8 movies were good. For some reason they are listed as region 1, but they all played perfectly well on a region 4 player.
