Great travel mount for iphone
Very portable and packable for travel. Magnet holds the phone firmly to the vent mount and it is easily adjustable to see while driving. The vent mount is very easy to secure for horizontal vent vanes. For vertical vents, there is some slippage and takes a little adjustment to make it secure (weight of phone wants to pull the mount down). I have an iPhone 13 mini so a bigger phone could be a problem. I used it in a rental car for a week and loved it. I could preprogram my directions and easily pop the phone into the mount and drive away with the GPS (sat-nav) showing the way.

The Nite Ize Steelie FreeMount is a great kit to have
The Nite Ize Steelie FreeMount is a great kit to have, and I'd recommend anyone to get it.First off, it is illegal in New Jersey (as well as many other states) to hold your phone. I used to put my Galaxy S6 (with OtterBox Commuter Case) in between my dash and steering wheel. It works, but it definitely slides around in the event that you have to do some "avoidance driving" (people short-brake you, aggressively merge onto your lane, etc). The Magnetic Ball Base clips onto one of the blades on your vent (usually, its the one that controls the air-stream up and down), and is strong enough to keep your FreeMount and phone in place. Once you put the Mount to the Base, it's not going to move around. Do note that the weight of the whole assembly will tilt down, so make sure you adjust your phone so you can see it clearly.I drive to/from work everyday, as well as drive for Lyft. I've gotten this product only recently, but have gone over 600+ miles with no complaints. It IS a vent mount...so you'll lose the functionality of one of your vents. If you don't like it...use the dash mount!

Careful - Samsung S20 Ultra
I love the mount. It's sturdy, but it is challenging to use with my particular phone. I have a Samsung S20 Ultra. If your car has a horizontal vent it will probably work better. The vent in my car that I would prefer to use is vertical. The mount does not hold the weight of the phone and is always flipping around (see pic). It then begins to 1/2 way detach (see pic) Very distracting while driving. When I use it on the small horizontal vent which is not my preferred vent it closes the makes the vents go downward and blocks the air conditioning (see pic). My niece has an iphone 6 and the mount fits perfects and she loves it.

Great depending on your cars vents.
Great product holds my phone in place very well but depending on the size of your phone you may need to use the extra padding they give you for smaller devices. My only gripe is that in my car the vent flaps it grips onto are just a bit too small for it so it will slide off after a while. Works fine in my girlfriends car though. Also beware to clip it near the bottom vent flap so it can rest most of its weight on the edge of the vent. Otherwise your vent flap can snap off.

kVent mount kit 👍
Great unit to hold my 12 Pro in place. The vent clip can occasionally slip, but for the most part it stays in place. The magnet is the greatest! Extreme holding power and endlessly adjustable.

Nite Ize version of a sponge Spork........yes you read it right
This Vent Steele didn’t work well in a 2015 Ford F-150. The Steele is a very heavy product and there is not enough resistance in the vent assembly to hold the clamp part of the Steele in place. I even moved the clip bracket to the lowest fin of the vent and the clip continued to orient down facing. I wedged pieces of leather to hold up the lowest fin on the vent but it still didn’t work. I still tried to use the Steele with the phone clamp on my iPhone 7 Plus. The clamp would work well if you use the death grip squeeze on the clamp sides. If you just use a normal squeeze, the phone would just drop out as the phone starts to face the floor. In conclusion, this would not be a good product to invest in. If it was cheaper then yes buy it, you would still get what you pay for then.

Replaced my iOttie - couldn't be happier
After my 3rd iOttie failed (all had the clamping mechanism crack/break) - we needed to find something else that would work with both iPhone and work better with my Samsung which needed to also use a patch cable to get music into the older vehicle's music input jack. Since this mount does not have any lower support brackets/arms - nothing pushes on the jack when used. Despite not having a lower phone support bracket, both our Apple and Samsung plus size screen phones are secure and have not fallen/poped out of the mount even once.I also had concerns with it using the A/C vent to mount into the vehicle, but it works fine in a Mini Cooper, and several GMC trucks we use regularly. Since the design places your phone directly in front of the A/C vent - Those hot Texas days where the phone is exposed in the sun are no longer an issue since the vehicle A/C will blow against the phone while your driving around. We liked this mount so much we now have it in all our vehicles. This mount does have a ratcheting & release system (there is a release lever on the back) - I am hopeful it is a better design than the iOttie and will last. I'll try to amend this review if they fail in the near future.

Serviceable but Beware if You Have a Larger Phone Model
Owned for 5 months up until it recently becoming defective. The adjustable clip stopped locking so my phone slides right out of the grips so unusable now. Will likely replace with different solution and here's why. Overall it's been a serviceable car mount option with some drawbacks. First problem has been with it actually holding my phone into position. The clip works fine for attaching to A/C vents but the magnetic mount just never seemed to be strong enough to keep my phone upright. My phone is the larger iPhone 7 Plus so I'm sure weight plays into equation. I had to adjust my phone back into position a few times during every commute. That's a distraction and hassle since I use GPS on my phone for navigation and traffic monitoring. Second issue is the clamp-style clip that locks onto the phone. It never inspired confidence from first purchase due to feeling less than stable mechanically and after 5 months it finally failed so guess it lived up to my initial thoughts on it. For the price point I expected a longer lasting car mount but unfortunately it fell far short.
