Moving parts add to the book's fun
Having bought two of Van Fleet's other books (Tails and Dogs), we were delighted to find the same level of interactive reading fun in a sturdily constructed book. "Heads" has some of the moving parts behind clear plastic which helps to protect some of the components from the ravages of little folk.I'd also like to comment about this book being rated poorly because it's too easily destroyed by babies and toddlers. While I think it's great to always have baskets or shelves full of indestructible board books that are always available to babies and toddlers...I also think memories are made by having a handful of books that are "put up." These are the books that might easily have whole sections/parts torn off. These are the books that come down for special "sit in the lap to read" times; and, seriously, is there any more special time than that for child or parent? Toddlers quickly recognize that a book requires "care" in handling--but their tiny hands just aren't equipped yet for that degree of gentleness and dexterity. One of those really special books that immediately comes to mind is "The Wheels on the Bus" by Paul Zelinsky. My son and I operated all the various moving parts together, his tiny hand clutched to mine. The excitement on his face that day that he was "careful enough" to operate the parts by himself was priceless. And, yet, he was still sitting in my lap at the time. And, YES, the book was held together by much tape and glue. All part of the memory.

The best of all the Van Fleet's
We have each of the following Matthew Van Fleet books like this: Heads, Tails, MOO, Dog,and Alphabet. This is by far the best!!! (However, each book is an absolute winner! You cannot go wrong.) When my first son was born, I did an in home daycare, and every child I kept loved these books. Their ages were 6 mos to 2 1/2 years. Now I have 17 month old twins (and no daycare) and these boys love them too. Each one has been read so many times that I have had to replace all of them. I gladly do it, because they are absolute favorites. I think the allure is the hidden pictures, the moving animals and the fact that it is short enough to keep the pages moving to keep their attention. I just can't say enough good things about the Matthew Van Fleet books.*The reason I have to replace them is because they are not board books. The pages are paper, although thick, and can be torn. Since I can't read them to my boys as many times as they would like (they would literally like me to read these 20 times in a row more than once a day), they are able to cruise through them at their leisure. Over time, they have ripped the flip up parts and the heads/tails/animals that are moveable and not protected by plastic. I think this is just how it goes in the world of books and toddlers and is not a lack of quality by any means on the part of the manufacturer.

Fun but Poorly Made
We had the Tails book first (which was great) and my son loved it. So I got him the Heads book. The first time we went through it, three pages broke. We weren't being rough. We were using the book as it was designed. The egg page was already half broken when we opened it. So it didn't take much for the egg to completely break off. The elephant page, we just pulled the tab once and (when pushing the tab back in) both ears broke off. The hippo's face was broken before even pulling that tab... We were able to fix all three pages with super glue and foam. Still a disappointment. I shouldn't have to fix something out of the box.

Heads Up!
A very cool interactive book for toddlers. I have purchased all the books in this series (I think) and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. My granddaughter is only 20 months, and she has enjoyed these books for the last 3 months. Very educational and fun at the same time. They are virtually indestructable, which is extremely important to me, since she had destroyed several other pop-up/interactive books. I've had to buy three copies of "Wheels on the Bus"! (Which is my all time favorite childrens book)I have bought litterally hundreds of childrens books over the years for my own children, grand children, and others. I'm a big believer in starting as early as possible when it comes to reading. Trust me when I say you want this book in your collection. Even though it's not a story book, it will still be a favorite due to it's interesting content and new style interactive devices. It will teach, entertain, and last forever. What more can you ask from a childrens book? A little pricey, but well worth the money in my opinion.

Great fun and very sturdy
This is a brilliant lift the flap book, which is what we expect from this author. The text is in rhyme and my child likes to complete the end rhyme on each page. The sticky tongue of the frog catching a fly is really sticky to the touch, which is a wonderful little quirk. The end page has a big pull out pop up of a whale and all the animals in the book, and there is an amazing variety for what seems like a relatively short book! Great for toddlers who can maim a lift the flap/pop out book beyond repair in minutes - really sturdy hard board with meaty levers to manoeuvre. Would recommend.

Great book
My son loves the Matthew Van Fleet books. They have gorgeous picture and great child sized sturdy tabs to push and pull. There are some comical bits in the book that make my son laugh which is nice and they have big thick pages meaning your child can turn the page when they are ready from quite a young age. This is one of my son enjoys most.

Fun book
A lovely book. Bought as a gift but my boy was given this when he was a baby and he reads it to himself now he's 6. Some of the moving parts have torn now but the story, pictures and moving parts are really fun and well done. Bit pricey but it's well made.
