IT WORKS! MY CUTE BUT TINY BOOM BOX
A few weeks ago, I was jolted by a small earthquake here in Southern California, so I naturally searched for my transistor radio to see if there was any news about the location and severity. However, I couldn’t find that radio, in spite of my frantic search for it. That’s when I went to Amazon to find a new one, and I was bewildered by the vast quantity and variety available for sale. I decided I wanted a small but simple one, without that bothersome antenna, or fancy digitized controls. I finally spotted the tiny Prunus J-985 model, which was a basic analog transistor radio, with no speakers, and where the provided earbuds also served as the antenna. It had an on/off switch, an AM/FM switch, a tuner wheel for selecting the stations, and a sound volume wheel. In other words, all the basics with no additional bells and whistles to add to the cost. It also had a metal clip for sturdy attachment to clothing. It was very light weight, and very small…about two thirds the size of a deck of cards, and all for only $17. Perfect!I read the accompanying blurb on the Amazon page, touting the features of this item, but like all such devices made in China these days, it sounded like it was written by a junior high school student who would have received a C- grade if it was a class project. But I decided to buy it anyway, because it also came with a DSP chip, That stands for Digital Signal Processor, which is supposed to be a chip primarily used in calculators. (I was sure it had its uses in radios as well.)When the gizmo arrived, I inserted two rechargeable AAA batteries, attached the earbuds, and began listening. (Tip: Buy a good pair of lengthy earbuds, e.g. from Sony, because the longer wire makes for clearer sound and the ear pieces are more comfortable.) Bottom line? The unit worked well. Quality of sound? About what you’d expect for a 17 dollar analog transistor radio. After all, “analog” means simple or usual, and that’s what the quality was…simple and usual. Actually, it was better than I expected, because it picked up almost every station in the surrounding geographic area. I even had a little trouble focusing the tuner wheel to the stations that I wanted because there were so many nearby stations broadcasting their diverse signals. I listen to my favorite AM stations when I’m in my car, but I don’t think I’ll be using my little Prunus, until there’s another earthquake or power outage, etc. Why? Because the number of sequential commercials on AM radio is a real turnoff. Give me Youtube, where you can zap the commercials after a few seconds. Can’t do that with a radio. Still, five stars for my cute little boom box.

Better than expected
This little radio performs better than expected. I bought it to use while mowing the yard and running the tractor out in the fields and woods. The reception is good, and battery life is excellent. The first pair of batteries lasted over 8 hours. The ear buds are more comfortable than anticipated, and not horrible on sound quality. My only complaint is with the tuning dial. A little movement on the dial goes a long way on the tuner. Plus, the dial isn't recessed and is easily bumped. If I manage to somehow destroy this one while working, I'll order another just like it.

Good things come in small packages
This little transistor radio is fantastic. The sound is amazing after a better quality of earphones are replaced. Otherwise I would have given it a 5 star rating. The look is very pleasing to the eyes as well. Very light but sturdy. Makes a great gift for music lovers.

Rich stereo sound!
I’ve tried every affordable compact radio with decent reviews on Amazon at this point, and this one has by far the best sound quality, with a separate switch for FM and FM stereo. Plugged in my koss headphones and the quality is as good as Spotify. Super small with a belt clip, feels quality, very satisfied.

Works good, durability questionable. Amazing service from the vendor
It works great, easy to use and good sensitivity for its size. Battery life is really good. The clip on the back makes it convenient to use while working or walking. Only complaint and reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the timing knob has become loose after just a couple of months, which makes me question its durability.Update: the vendor contacted me based on my review and offered a refund. I requested a replacement instead, and a new one arrived a short time later. Amazing 5+ star service!

Pass of this one
Bought if and it stopped working after a month or two. Also loudness had to be all the way up to hear it, wouldn't recommend it.

Vary sensitive controllers
It runs on batteries & it is conveniently small. You can fit it in your pocket. My only problem that bugs me so much is how sensitive the little controllers are. I barely swipe my hand on the side of the thing & the volume controller changes! & so does the station controller when you barely touch it. I’m using this so I can listen to the radio while still working because it soothes me. I’m picky on the stations I listen to so when it switches that easily from a small touch it bothers me because I have a hard time going back to my preferred station. I wish it wasn’t so sensitive. I wanted to give this 4 or 3 stars but figured more people would see my review if I put 5 stars
