We purchased this for our dear friend’s baby shower! The images and stories are so cute AND it teaches super easy Japanese words! She loved it and if we had children we would have definitely gotten it for us too. Great purchase!

So cute!
My 11 year old daughter is in love with all things Japan and wants nothing more than to visit one day. I wanted her to learn more about the culture first and thought this was a great start. She absolutely adores this book and we read it daily. I’m really hoping there’ll be a part 2!

Great book for introducing kids to Japan
This book is a fun read with a cat visiting Japan who is explaining everything he sees. There are Japanese words sprinkled through the book and their meaning and then the full list of words on one of the end pages. I think this is a great book for children because it lets them explore a different culture. There are not a lot of Japanese children’s books (or at least ones I’ve seen), so it’s great to show something different. The facts at the end of the book are also fun to know and were introduced throughout the story. I would recommend

Very Disappointing & A Bit Odd
This book is described as a Children's book about Japan, but it is more like the diary of a frat boy - (though it is written by a woman). I am not sure what age "children" the author was aiming for. I bought it for a young child who has never been outside of their community let alone the USA. The author starts out getting on a plane and then jumps around randomly. The language is like that of a teenager, and reads more like a (frat boy's) personal diary. At the end of the book, it appears she tried to turn the diary into a children's book by sprinkling it with Japanese words, adding a vocabulary page, games & a quiz. The illustrations are stylized, not terrible, but the ink colors in the book are on the dark & dull side. I am returning it.
