Q: Can you tie a knot on the ends of 1.5 inch thick rope? For something this thick, what is the best way to secure the end if not with a knot?

The best way is to “Backsplice” the rope into itself. Video available on youtube. This will create a secure “handle” on the ends that will keep rope intact

Q: What's the best way to cut the rope?

Rap the end tight with wide masking tape. Cut half way up the tape with sharp knife or box cutter. Then burn the end with a lighter. Remove tape.

Q: Would this work to make a bull riding rope?

Good morning! No , I believe it would be way too slippery for bull riding. Even with gloves on, the synthetic property of this rope makes it smooth and slick. Check into a polypropylene rope or a nylon one. I think they put a bell at the bottom and a place in the middle of the rope for your hand, and they put leather in there somehow to make it stiff enough to get a really good grip.
