Sehr guter Abrichtblock

Plane Schleifsteine leicht gemacht

Don't Waste Your Money
I am going to preface this by saying I am not a newbie at sharpening: I run a fine carpentry business in the sf bay area and often am sharpening chisels for carpenters, Plane blades for working on fine slabs of wood and several other tools we use around the job site. I wouldn't say I sharpen every day, but often Ill do a few sessions a week and annually probably spend $400 - 500 minimum on sharpening items.I bought this hoping this would be the cats meow of flattening stones. Even at the very expensive price, I figured if it lasted me 5 years, so what.Just today (not even one year after purchasing), I started to see all of my tools come off the sharpening stones (shapton glass) with cupping of the edge (moon shaped). After a ton of head scratching and going back and forth, I traced it to this very lapping plate (the tools will be shaped to whatever the shape it is being flattened on). Went back to my long lost Diaflat (to flatten the shaptons) and behold, all of the blades are now straight. I will never purchase another flattening plate from shapton again. So now, not even after one year, I don't know what to do.I guess Ill have to accept that I have a $400 paperweight.

Happy camper
I use the shapton stones with this flatterer to hone my straight razors.A "pro" honing of my straight razors left me with "scritch-snag-scritch."After using this flattener on the shapton stones, I've gone from that scritch-snag-skritch to the truly slick slippery sliding of an extremely sharp edge. (I go 2K, 4K, 6K, 16K, 30K).I have more invested in my shapton stones & lapping plate than I would spend in the rest of my lifetime if I were to buy Gillette megablades. So my heirs are a little worse off. Nevertheless, I'm now in control of both my razor's edge and how that edge treats my face. That sense of control - - augmented by the joy of skilfully wielding a work-of-art - - makes me a happy camper.

Buy something cheaper. It'll probably last longer.
I bought this to go with a set of Shapton Glass stones. It worked great, the first few times I flattened the stones. After a week, all of the diamond surface had worn off, leaving me with a useless, textured piece of steel. Don't buy this...
