VKUSRA 4-port USB 3.0 hub, and how to apply power externally to it.
This is a very good low-cost USB 3.0 hub for the money. I have had no problems with it, such as dropouts, and speeds seem to be in line with what you'd expect from USB 3.0. I personally don't like the power switches because they are easily hit when you don't want to hit them, which then disconnects that port. Having NO switches would be better, IMO, and would also lower the cost of the hub. Oh well. Other than that, I have no complaints. You may notice in the About This Item description of the hub, the second bullet point tells you that the power that can be delivered to the four ports is limited by whatever USB port you plug the hub into, and if you need more power, then it must be externally applied. This is true.A USB 3.0 port that is built into a computer is theoretically supposed to be capable of delivering 0.9 amps to whatever it is connected to. However, sometimes a laptop won’t deliver that much current because if it has to deliver that power while running off of its battery, then it will suck the battery dry in no time. Hence, the available current may be throttled down to less than 0.9 amps. Once you plug a hub into a USB 3.0 port, whatever amperage that port you connected the hub to can deliver is whatever power the entire hub can deliver.. Just because the hub has 4 USB 3.0 ports of its own does not mean that each can deliver 0.9 amps. NO! That would be creating power out of thin air. The TOTAL amps available is limited to 0.9 amps or less! The way around this problem is to provide an external power supply to the hub … to boost its current delivery capabilities.Since the ad does not tell you HOW to “externally power” the hub, I’m here to show you how. It’s easy to do..On the same side that the USB wire enters the hub is a small hole. That hole is an opening for a 4.0mm x1.7mm power plug. You can find cables on Amazon that have a USB plug on one end and a 4.0mm x 1.7mm plug on the other end. Ask yourself how long you want that cable to be. There are usually 1.5m and 2m lengths. Search for “power cable 4.0x1.7mm usb”. (These cables are for power transmission only. They do NOT pass data, so don’t expect data transmission through them!) Buy one of the cables then connect the 4.0x1.7 plug into the hub’s power plug opening. At the USB end, you can plug it into a standard 5V “USB power supply,” aka “power adapter." I would recommend a 3 amp adapter for maximum power delivery for your hub.If you use one of these “marshmallow” power adapters that are quite popular, particularly amongst travelers, then you have a very compact powered USB hub! Just be aware that different current capabilities mean different maximum wattage capabilities. 1amp/2amp/3amp deliver up to 5 watts/10 watts/15 watts, respectively. I would not suggest you try to run higher currents than 3A through the wires and plugs as they will probably get a bit warm when delivering heavier current loads, and could, over time, result in intermittent power to the hub.

Works as it should.
Fits right in my front dash cubby hole on my 2012 xlt f150 like it was made specifically for that space. Faceplate faces out so all ports are easily accessible. Each port has a ON/OFF and so far I am using 4 without lack of power.

Easy to set up, great features, works perfectly
I'm using this hub to connect peripherals to my PC - label printer, webcam, etc. I like that each connection is switched, so I can cut power to my webcam without having to unplug it. It's super-convenient. Everything I have connected has worked.

Not the plain ole port hub. Has a few nice features that really improve
I purchased a keyboard that didn’t have external usb charge ports so I purchased this product. It has individual led charge lights and even has on/off buttons for each port as well

Does not include external power adapter
I assumed, since there were pictures of a power cable attached the hub, that this power source was included. Nope. Not a big deal unless you're using an external drive or any other hardware that requires better throughput.
