Absolutely effective and easy to use for the DIY occasional user.
This solder sucker really sucks, it beats the heck out of the old-style "squeeze the rubber bulb" solder sucker. This is not for someone who makes a living doing solder removal and component rework, as it does take a few seconds to reset the plunger each time. But seriously it sucks up the solder completely each and every time I used it to replace 40 LEDs on a light assembly, it made the job ridiculously easy to remove each LED in about 10 seconds or less for each LED. It was easy to clean out the solder out of the device. Excellent value for the money spent.

I was skeptical.. but did the trick mostly
I got this to help remove joysticks from a ps5 controller. It has 14 joints on each joystick. This thing worked like a charm for 10 of them. The other 4 were large joints that are hard to heat. I needed to use a hot air gun for th9se but I in no way blame this tool.If you are removing regular through-hole components, this is better than a non-heated solder sucker for sure.

Great Soldering Iron
Works perfect. Thank You

Like it
Really liking this thing so far. Saves having to use a ton of solder wick. Makes desoldering of any parts a breeze. Saves you having to spend hundreds on one of those fancy desoldering guns.

It works.... until it wears out -- and that happens QUICKLY.
THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED. Rating downgraded due to poor quality tips, see below.Initially, this iron did exactly the job it's meant for. It made quick work of de-soldering some sockets on a piece of retro kit I needed to fix. It has issues, though:1) There is no temperature control, the iron just run at a fixed power level. For de-soldering, that's fine if you have good dexterity and a light touch, but if you aren't careful, this iron will damage the PCB by overheating it.2) That high temperature causes it to fairly quickly oxidize its de-soldering tips, so the tinning essentially "wears off" after a matter of minutes. The tips are hard to re-tin once that happens. A steel wire brush is only just barely enough to break the oxidation.3) While the iron and pump themselves seem to be holding-up just fine, the desoldering tips that come with this tool are just JUNK! A good tip is critical to successful desoldering, and the ones this comes with begin to wallow-out from the inside VERY quickly, and have a rather wide outer diameter, which increases the risk of board damage due to overheating. In fact after a few hundred more pins since my initial use, the 1 mm nozzle actually lost a tiny chunk at the tip -- the metal had worn completely through, resulting in a hole right at the edge, thus making it impossible to draw a vacuum through the target component pin hole. I don't think I got even 10 hours of use out of it before it failed. The other one is already wallowed-out way beyond normal, and it's only done a couple hundred or so pins, so it's already starting to have trouble keeping the heat on the pad since it can't keep itself centered. It won't be too much longer before this tip is trashed also. These tips are clearly made of some soft or inferior metal. I assume copper, but a good soldering iron uses an iron or steel tip, thus a good desoldering iron needs that also. For comparison, I've probably done thousands of pins with my T12, and it's showing no signs yet of the tip wearing significantly.Going by the rate of wear, I would say this tool should have come with at least 10 replacement tips of each size. Or anyway at least enough to get a good couple hundred hours of use before it's time to restock.Bottom line:This tool will probably work fine if you're in a pinch, but if you plan on actually doing desoldering in the long term, DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM unless you can also get good quality, HARD tips for it that won't wear out prematurely.

It'll work, but I'd choose a different one now.
It does alright when sucking solder off of pins. I does take a little bit to warm up, but that's expected. The main issue is that you're going to need a trashcan by you when using it. It spits out pieces of solder when you go to re-plunge. I've used this less than a week, and maybe a hundred pins. Likely less. Save your money and put it towards a better brand.
