Great gift idea for a 8 yr old girl
My granddaughter turned 8. She loved this sewing machine as her gift. She has made dogs toys and I used it to sew a shirt. Great for a beginner!

Straight novelty garbage
I realize this was going to be on the rickety side , but I expected it to at least work. Maybe not A fancy double stitching, zig zag, button hole, write my name in calligraphy thread Or even go back wards . I did however, expect it to at least sew a single line.I hope you don't.I suppose it can be considered a "learning tool" in the sense that you can spend 5-6 hours repeatedly threading, adjusting tension, pulling knotted thread out of bobber area and many other troubles of sewing you may feel you need practice dealing with or learning.I'm not a stupid person. The machine is threaded correctly. It just cannot sew longer than a couple inches and it just quirks out. Besides thread breaking, tension issues causing loopy loose stitches, some how it actually rethreaded itself with the end of the long start I had. This will baffle me for ever.If sewing isn't your true objective. Unfortunately, mine was I was making my granddaughter a very simple pillowcase. This won't be for you. I could not complete it. I figure 3 days 4-6 hours every day trying to make the machine work, and it would, for 2-3 inches worth of sewing. Then, you get another 35 mins restringing the junk.So if you need a hard lesson with no reward on threading a machine then this is for you.The directions are clear.Except about the tension and Im sure that's where the issues lie.Personally, I'm going to enjoy putting this junk in to some sort of launching equipment and watch it smash to a million pieces.I suggest you spend 10 extra bucks and get something else. I'd ask for refund but I feel my 19 dollars would be better spent destroying the thing preventing someone else the aggravation and me relief from a seamstress rage.It did come with a selection of cheap thread. No hope there, I tried different thread as well.. Seriously, just buy something else.

Fair quality Kids machine
If you don't want to spend a lot, this is a good kids machine. The sewing action is NOT smooth or quiet like higher end machines. You get what you pay for here. The tension came set excessively tight, but I adjusted it.The fabric appears to be cheap, 100% cotton fabric like you might find at your local Walmart craft section. The scissors are dull/cheap but work. Everything that comes in the little kit is cheap feeling/looking to an adult familiar with sewing supplies, but exciting for a child. The thread cutter on the machine works, it's a bit awkwardly placed, but works. To change the thread, you must unscrew a knob and not lose a large spring that might also come off (easy to place back on).The foot pedal is TINY...child size. Half the size of many other pedals. The wires are cheap feeling.Operates by batteries OR plug in. Must remove batteries if using the plug. All that being said, my 7yr old was super excited and able to sew some very basic things. It doesn't move too fast for her either, once she got a few minutes of practice. One of the pictures in the sewing ideas booklet has a marijuana leaf belt. Im sure the picture used was a mistake, becuase the booklet otherwise is very child/tween oriented.

Only one stitch pattern available, cheap but not worth it
The top thread kept getting disconnected while my daughter is using it. Good for a little kid because it is more of a toy and for small projects. No other stitch pattern available.***UPDATE: used 3rd time to make a miniskirt. Needle broke, replaced it, but the machine will not work and not sewing anymore. You get what you paid for, 3 uses.
