then I watched the youtube shorts and I loved them! I bought this thinking it was more ...
first off let me get one thing clear. I am a huge dc comics fan! so when they announced this line I was naturally sceptical, then I watched the youtube shorts and I loved them! I bought this thinking it was more of the same I was dead wrong, and you know what? I'm glad I was!this book has a different story to the shorts characters who only had cameos now have full fledged appearances and theres even a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting due to the different character interpretations. one thing I will mention is that the male characters make more of an appearance here with Hal Jordan, Beast Boy, and Steve Trevor being the main ones and there's even a cameo from everyone's favourite big blue boy scout! The main character is Wonder Woman like the shorts but again she is more than the perfect princess shown in the shorts. She is an overachiever with issues dealing with living up to her mothers example, by the end of the book however you start to see the person that is able to stand next to superman and Batman. The books main plot driver is a triwizard tournament style Olympics and most of the drama and conflict are brought to a satisfying conclusion by its end. I would definitely recommend this book and I am looking forward to getting the next one

A great introduction to the DC Super Hero Girls!
A really good début novel for the DC Super Hero Girls. The book centres on Wonder Woman as she arrives as the new girl at DC Super Hero High. If you've been following the online animated series then the book is a great expansion on that, it features its own story but incorporates some elements from the show. With Wonder Woman being new to the world of man after growing up on Paradise Island there's a lot of things she doesn't know about, like social media, cliques and how to deal with boys! She soon finds a group of girls to call her friends though, from kooky room mate Harley Quinn to shrinking flyer Bumble Bee and plant expert Poison Ivy, all of the main girls from the series show up. There's more characters like Cyborg who show up who haven't really been featured in the webisodes yet, and the only character who is really any different is Killer Frost - renamed Frost here in the book and despite dropping the Killer moniker she is in fact far nastier here than she has been in the webisodes. The story itself isn't so much an origin story for Wonder Woman, who comes fully formed as the warrior princess of the Amazons, but about how she incorporates to school life and balancing that with her super-heroics. Overall it's a really fun story, filled with some twists and the conclusion sets up the arrival of another Super Hero Girl, which for my niece at least had her eagerly asking when the next book would be out!Aimed at the tween market, I'd recommend this book for those who can self read with ease. It's quite a long book and features a lot of super-heroic vocabulary - so a familiarity with the Super Hero genre will be an advantage. If you're still reading stories to your youngsters though it would still be a good book, there's nothing too violent and the story is actually really exciting! It's also great to have a franchise with strong powered Super Heroines front and centre! With all the superheroes around at the moment, the female characters are often overlooked or just have one token representation in any of the major teams. With DC Super Hero Girls all of the main characters are girls with lots of other female secondary characters, which is great for youngsters to see! Just be aware that there are dolls and action figures coming soon, and if you're children are fans of the line you might have an expensive year ahead with all the female hero merchandise about to be unleashed!
