Great for open water swimming
I used to use the silicone plugs and they are ok. THe problems were first that they need to be clean and need some fiddling to fit your ear. Don't try taking them out and reinserting while in the water (to hear someone better) and they can't be cleaned after dropping them. I tried a few different vented plugs that would allow me to hear in the water but the other brands stuck out from the ear and got caught sooner or later (on kelp etc) and pulled out. The jbl hydro seal sits inside the ear so it can't easily be knocked or pulled loose but is very easy to take out and reinsert and to clean. The size refers more to the external part which fits under the folds of the ear. My ear canal is small but the exterior is "average" so the medium fits perfectly. The ear plug does not 100% seal out the water but it prevents it from flooding in and I am told that is what is needed to prevent damage from cold water and bone growth. I've been using these for 1.5 years and after about 9 months the first set got a little stiff and brittle so I replaced them. Also there is a dedicated left and right so if you are prone to losing things you should have a full spare set.TO recap-good for swimming-allows you to heard sounds and voices around you-a no snag easy to use fit-not a perfect waterproof seal but sufficient to protect the ear-size is determined by exterior portion of the ear-read instructions to understand proper fit, it is different than the usual plugs

Great for scuba and snorkeling
I always had trouble equalizing one of my ears and gave them a shot due to the affordable pice. I read about them helping ear equalization specifically in colder water. In layman's terms, they seem to limit the amount of (cold) water hitting your eardrum at once and seem make it easier to equalize by keeping your eardrum warmer and therefore more flexible. Once in a while they become loose, but I also do not force them in very deep. Had no issues using them for Scuba up to 90ft and could equalize very well. very comfortable, you almost forgot you have them in. Also come in handy for noise reduction if you are on a smaller boat with a loud engine. I liked them also for snorkeling, since you don't fell like constantly having waves and water splashing against your ears. Sizing is as expected, if you have earbuds with exchangeable rubber pieces you probably already know which size your typically go for. I was scared of loosing them but they stay pretty well in your ear, just need to push adjust in the ear channel once in a while. Keep them clean after each use and I'm sure you get some great use out of it. Storage container is useful but can be a dit flimsy. I wouldn't have minded a more solid plastic container to keep them safe over time, but then again can't complain at that price.

Good, for the most part
I was getting ear infections after taking showers, and the old foam earplugs I had weren't staying in. It seemed I needed vented earplugs, and these vent pretty well. At first, they went in ok, but now I'm unable to get the right earplug in. It feels like it isn't venting or that something is blocking it, but when I check (by sucking on the part you hold onto), it seems to be vented ok. I suspect that maybe wax is now blocking the plug, or that maybe my right ear canal is more narrow. It's also possible that the earplug has gotten stiffer and won't go in. I was getting ear infections in the left ear, so the left earplug is still helping a lot - no infections since I started using them. I still put the right one in as best I can, and it just kind of sits there (doesn't really go into the ear canal), but that still seems to help some.Re. customer support, it's pretty good. I sent several emails, and they answered the first two, but not the last one. I tend to be detailed in my questions.

BEST swimming/diving ear plugs ever!!!
I originally found these at a diving supply company and read the reviews. They are ear plugs that help divers decompress easier and you can still hear above the water. The completely seal the canal yet water can gather by the top and block some hearing. I just shake my head and I’m good. They ergonomically fit in your ears. Our whole family wears them for swimming in the outdoor, at the Y and especially the beach. We are seriously prone to swimmers ear so we find these necessary. They are worth every penny spent. Matter of fact I’ve bought extras and replacements because our son lost his in a lake At camp. It was just too murky to find them. Most people do wear size medium. Our teens and my husband and myself wear that size. Make sure you follow the instructions on putting them in. Hope this review helps someone else!

Very close but not 100% for surfing
I ordered a medium pair to begin with and they seemed a little loose while using them. I then ordered a second pair large and they were a little too big. The pink plastic seemed to be the part that was too big on the second pair. I use the med pair but they seem to still let water in. I didn't see anything that said they wouldn't let water in so i can't say if thats normal. I got surfers ear and have suffered with it for a while so i really need something to help.Ordering and receiving were awesome. no complaints there.

Best Yet
I use these for kayaking, roll practice and such. I've tried a couple others and the foam plugs but these are far better. The big thing is the fit and the soft rubbery material. Of course all ears are different but the flexibility of the ring I think would be very adaptable. Fits very well for me. It also makes it very secure and comfortable. They do keep the water out and are pretty good about letting in sound. Only trouble I had was sizing. Went medium first but really needed the large. No more searching, these are my plugs.
