Works well on most weeds, but not will not cut tall overgrown grass. Was unsure how sturdy it would be since is shipped in a small box in two pieces, but once you glue it and allow glue to dry overnight it’s very sturdy! No issues. Was able to cut back large field of weeds. Hard work, took a couple hours and when I removed my work gloves I had some bad blisters, but overall this tool made it a doable job. Now I’m using it to cut down single weeds when they pop up, much easier than doing large area. Would recommend!

I have read negative reviews with reasons that are hard for me to fathom and other reasons that are mistakenly bogus. Here are some useful tips.1. Remember that YOU are the most important part of this tool.2. Learn how to use it.a. With heavy dense grass or thin vines angle the tip of your blade away from your strike by as much as45*. This allows the blade to pass over the density like a saw, easing its passage.b. DON't try to chop tree stems (or rocks) of any size with this tool, They are too strong and dense.c. DO sharpen the blade on both sides and only on the TOP of the blade at 45* down with a fine metal file after each use. Forget the kerfs.3. Several light to medium passes are easier and faster than one massive chopping action. This tool is NOT a machete or an axe. DON'T try to use it that way.Decades ago this type of tool was lovingly called a "swish stick" by those who used them every day. They had smooth blades that were razor sharp and one worker could knock down a field of weeds and overgrowth with one in less than a day's moderate work. The only issue for me is that I was one of the old school who used a swish stick regularly and I don't like the serrated blade on this one or any of the others. Sadly, the working days of our swish stick finally ended with a fatigued and broken blade.PS. Be sure to use the red thread lock liquid that's included when installing the handle and hold your swish stick firmly but not over tightly while working. That way, both you and your tool won't become over tired or hurt too soon. Overall, this tool is well suited to its purpose and well made and I feel comfortable recommending it. Have fun.

This tool is great for attacking tall weeds... it saved my back and thighs from bending over and picking the weeds manually. Saved me so much time. Its also fun to use.

I would have given this zero stars, did that option exist.This may be the most disappointing item I have ever bought. It is not at all sharp and simply does not do the job of cutting grasses or weeds. Many whacks from one side or another might eventually cut a few stalks, but mostly they just lay the grass down on its side. I had high hopes of clearing my large back lot of grasses before they went to seed. (I planned to spray the cut plants with a vinegar and Epsom salts solution to kill them.) Now I am left having to pull them all out myself -- or pay someone else to do it, as I did last year.This product should be removed from the market.

I needed a backup grass whip for the ones I have, two name brand ones. After assembly, bolting the blade on (which I have converted my current ones to instead of the rivets) and screwing the spot welded shaft to the handle that has the thread fastener applied, I waited the 48 hours to give it a whack at some runaway grass from several weeks of unneeded rain. Chinese thread fastener is not Loctite. An hour or so the screw in portion loosened. I dressed the blade prior to mounting and although it did a good job on the grass, I noticed each time I touched up the blade, the shaft that was spot welded had rust dust coming out the opening where the shaft and screw in collar connected. I don't know if it was residual rust from the cheap steel or if the weld is working loose. I am leaving the thread fastener off for now, so I can tell how much more it loosens. For the $27 price, light-weight handle was comfortable, it may seem like a cheaper bargain, but the name brand ones at the local hardware store were only $3 more for the one piece units with riveted blades. I will continue to use it exclusively, but it will have to last at least several years with no attention, except the blade, to beat the ones I have. Time will tell.

This is not the tool to make a neat cut in a lot of grass. This is not the tool to make a perfectly shaped edge.This is the tool to clear new growth off hundreds of feet of trail as you walk.I use it as a rough trail clearing tool. In areas that get a lot of sun I get a lot of what I call "salad" (random green stuff). This goes through that easily and gets things low enough that walking is easy and the trail is clear.It cuts vines, weeds, small brush with no problem and is light enough to carry around.However, you have to put in work to swing it. It only works if you can get it going.

Will not cut through clumps of grass. Will cut through individual grass blades and thin individual weeds. I didn't realize when I purchased it that the handle (shaft) comes in 2 pieces that you have to screw together. Even using the thread adhesion product that was included and letting it cure for 30 hours, the handle still came unscrewed during the first use. You also have to attach the blade with hardware that is included. They even included a wrench, but you will need an additional wrench or pliers to brace the bolt while using the wrench on the hex nut (easier if you have the correct size socket). They made a good effort, but I found to be insufficient in performance and I would have preferred a one-piece shaft. I was a bit embarrassed since this purchased this as a gift.

It's a bit short and putting it together it felt extremely awkward but it managed to be one of the best manual weed whackers available. Just like swinging a golf club.
