Highly Absorbent and Highly Effective
These yellow absorbent pads are manufactured in UK and are intended for general purpose use with all types of liquids, including hazardous chemicals; they are not designed for oil or fuel spillages (white for oil and fuel; yellow for other liquids)They are quite large at 50cm x 40 cm (almost 20 by 16 inches) and they come in a substantial open/close carrier bag so are easy to store.I intend to use the pads when I replace a central heating radiator so I shall place a plastic waterproof membrane on the carpet below the radiator, with the absorbent pads over the top of the membrane to mop up any potential dirty water as the radiator is removed. So that I could get an idea of how effective the pads are, I cut a 5cm strip from the top of one pad; they are easily cut using scissors. I then placed the strip across the centre of the pad and poured 100ml of water on to the strip.I was surprised to see that a significant area of the pad underneath the strip stayed completely dry and I was later able to squeeze the surplus water from the strip and the lower pad, after which I left them both to dry.Once dried out after wetting, the pads stay surprisingly intact and can easily be used again if the spillage is merely clean water. In the case of a chemical or a hazardous liquid, the pads could be carried quite safely to be disposed of in a responsible way.Once I had dried out the 5cm strip, it occurred to me that similar strips would be ideal for placing along window sills to mop up condensation. I tried various widths along the sills and found that the optimum width for my sills is around 2.5cm to 3cm, which soaks up the moisture without taking up too much space. These absorbent pads are undoubtedly going to be extremely useful in many different situations and are also very handy to have around in case of emergency.

Good for solvents, not for water.
A great purchase for around a chemicals lab as they absorb solvents highly effectivley, yet their absorbance for water is not as effective as kitchen roll.

Super-duper super-slurpers!
Absorbent Sheet 50cm x 40cmThis are quite a specialist product intended for mopping up and containing chemical spills that involve unknown toxic, flammable, corrosive and aggressive substances, but I actually got them for a more mundane use, spills on the kitchen floor – I have a leaky washing machine. They come supplied as large sheets, 50cm x 40cm. They are simple to use you just lay them over the spillage, and it soaks it up. The difference between these and regular kitchen towels or similar is that they retain the liquid when you pick them up, it doesn’t simply run out, and they don’t feel soaking wet either. They are perforated and this helps speed the absorption of the spillage. Once used they can be disposed of safely without dripping noxious chemicals everywhere. As they are intended for chemical spills, they should be impervious to most household cleaning products. I’ve tried them with oil too and it works well for this. These are quite expensive for what they are, but worth the expense if you’re concerned about chemical spills. The sheets can be cut down to something smaller for more economical use, and there is a tear strip down the middle as well to assist with this.I use oils and solvents regularly, and I’m keeping some by my work bench for those inevitable accidents. What I liked about it:• Very effective at soaking up liquid spills.• Retains liquid well after use.• Easy to cut into smaller pieces. What I didn’t like about it:• They aren’t cheap.Overall, I think this is a very effective product. It’s not really intended for water spills, though it works well for that, but if you are handling chemicals, it’s well worth having these around.

When you need it, you'll be glad you got it.
Not something I'd ever have thought of buying but now I've tried them, I'm for sure going to be keeping them on hand.As stated they're super absorbent, like REALLY absorbent, I created a fake test of spilling some dirty brush cleaning spirits in the workshop and it mopped it up like it was nothing. I think these are now a must for anyone with a workshop working with nasty fluids. I've always had blue roll on hand for spills before and you end up using half a roll or more for the quantity a sheet of these could clean up. So on that basis even though they seem expensive they do come into their own when you take what your alternatives are in comparison.Beyond the obvious spillage usage I've also cut up a couple of these to put in the bottom of draws/trays where i store liquids that i fear will leak/be put away wet like oil containers, brushes and cleaning products just to protect the bottom of the container.Would recommend, if you think there's a remote possibility something nasty will spill in your work area that you don't want to soak up with 100's of paper towels, you'll be thankful.
