I wanted to make sure I had a true eclipse protective glasses. I went to American Astronomical Society and found recommended approved glasses made in USA. I called the manufacturer and was told the name of their vendor on Amazon. They assured me they would hear if anyone was trying to use the name. I ordered 10 for the best deal. The price is great. They arrived fast! They came in a sealed package without damage. I am prepared and comfortable knowing these are quality products. Ready for the eclipse.I recommend this product based upon the American Astronomical Society approval.The AAS said products say use for 3 minutes for extra protection. The actual eclipse lasts 4 minutes max if my information is accurate. The entire experience does last about an hour I think.Enjoy and be safe with these glassesUpdate - October 14The eclipse was awesome! I shared them with friends and neighbors as I bought 10. The price to buy 10 was very reasonable versus just 2. I sat in my driveway in a patio recliner and watch the spectacular eclipse. I am right in the path of the eclipse with an open view. I am so thrilled with these and relieved to know they are approved by AAS versus the unknown of those sold on the side of the road. Our city was completely out of them.There will be another eclipse of some form this year to use them. Ot may not be as spectacular as this one but they are all awesome.

We live in the "path of totality" for the upcoming eclipse on August 21, 2017. Because we'll be having houseguests and friends coming for a barbeque and the eclipse event, I decided to buy a bunch of protective eyewear to pass out to everyone.I first checked the NASA website to see what I should look for in eclipse glasses. The site stresses that (other than the short period of time of "total eclipse" when the moon FULLY covers the sun) protective glasses or solar viewers are absolutely necessary for safe eclipse viewing. Also, that just wearing regular sunglasses (no matter how dark the lenses) was not enough and could endanger your eyes. They recommended only buying eclipse glasses that have applied for and received certification for meeting the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard. These glasses have that certification and the manufacturer, American Paper Optics, was one of the few listed on the NASA site. The fact that they were one of the few mentioned on NASA's site and are made in the USA influenced my decision to buy these over some others listed.I obviously can't evaluate their effectiveness in viewing the stages of an eclipse until August 21, but I have tried just looking directly at the sun briefly with them on and they work fine. For cardboard glasses, they fit comfortably enough. At the glasses' temple, there are fold marks that allow you to crease them to shorten the ear stem for smaller heads (TIP: Once you've folded in that temple crease to fit them more comfortably on smaller heads, I'd suggest wrapping a bit of tape around that fold to secure that shorter temple length in order to keep the glasses from slipping).NOTE: I'd ordered these a couple of months prior to the eclipse. Since that time, I've read that many of the eclipse glasses sold on Amazon are fake imports and not safe for use. The ones I received from American Paper Optics ARE stamped with the ISO safety seal and were one of the manufacturers recommended by NASA. An additional safety check per the "experts" is to hold your glasses up to a strong artificial light source (a bright lamp or lightbulb). You should NOT be able to detect ANY light coming through the lens of the glasses. The glasses I received were authentic and safe.
