Economical way to purchase nutritional yeast
This looks and tastes like the nutritional yeast I’ve used in the past but is so much less expensive. Bucket is hard to open so I keep it in canning jars.

Excellent product but needs a different kind of container
The main reason I bought a gallon bucket of nutritional yeast from Birch and Meadow was because of the current US economy. Compared to the same product from other companies, the price is (IMHO) excellent. Now that I have opened the bucket and started using the nutritional yeast, I find it to be an excellent product that is adding a lot to my diet, both in flavor and nutrition. However, getting into the bucket was a major production when it really should not have been.As is the case with most plastic buckets, the one I had to struggle a bit with has a lid with a plastic tab that is designed to be grasped with the right hand and given a good yank. Then, with steady pulling, a strip of plastic is disengaged at the bottom edge of the lid, leaving four tabs.I'm a lefty, so to open the bucket and use the nutritional yeast inside, I have to hold the bucket cradled in my right arm and pull up firmly on the tabs with my right hand. The lid, which has a gasket, comes off (and goes back on) with a bit of a popping sound. The opened bucket is well-designed to store what's inside and keep it fresh. And I can re-use it. That's great. What was not so great is that it took me about FORTY-FIVE minutes to get the bucket open.I have no idea how food vendors (especially vendors selling organic/holistic/natural products) choose their product suppliers or the suppliers of the containers for those products. I have no idea how their products end up in the containers. I have no idea how quality control is carried out for such items.Maybe Birch and Meadow's "nooch" supplier just had a run of crappy containers shipped to them, and I got one of those for some reason. All I can say is that opening a container of nutritional yeast should not be harder than opening a bottle of aspirin with a child-safety lid.In several places, the lid on the bucket I struggled with was (apparently) not scored so that the strip at the bottom would just pull off. I had to take a push pin and poke a line of holes in the plastic, pull a little, pole a few more holes, pull a little more. Eventually, I got all the way around the lid, and it opened. Some people would say, "too much trouble," and that's true. But even more than improvising solutions to problems, I hate the process I have to go through when returning items to Amazon. If something is not broken but merely annoying, I can cope. However, in this situation, I think that Birch and Meadow should consider a different type of container for bulk nutritional yeast. A flat-bottom bag that can be opened with a pair of scissors would (again IMHO) be much easier to open and store.I'm not a restaurant owner. I have a small kitchen. Reusable buckets are great, but so are recyclable bags. In a different container, I would buy this item again.

Great Flavor- Great Price
I like this brand. I like the bucket it comes in. The flakes are a great size.

Flavorless Nooch
I was excited to buy this nutritional yeast in bulk since we use a lot of it, especially on popcorn. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge bucket of flavorless nooch. It lacks the rich, cheesy flavor I get from my usual brand, so I’ll be sticking to buying it locally in bulk. Disappointing, especially for the quantity and price.

Tear strip to open tub DOESN'T WORK!
I like to sprinkle nutritional yeast on casseroles, popcorn, etc. I had never tried this brand but figured all nutritional yeasts were essentially the same, so for economical reasons I ordered this tub. MISTAKE! Granted, my hands aren't as strong as they once were (I'm female and a senior), but it took a male friend of mine close to 45 minutes to get the tub open -- and that with two pairs of pliers and a box cutter! The tear strip never did come off properly, so the lid didn't sit tight. Consequently, I invested in a glass gallon jar with a sealing ring to keep the yeast fresh. As to the yeast itself, I usually purchase the KAL yeast flakes, the taste of which I love. The Birch & Meadow flakes have a different flavor, which I don't like as much. I'm hoping I'll get used to it, as there's a lot to be used up! I'm considering getting some KAL flakes and mixing the two.Update: Seller saw my review and offered to refund me, which I accepted, though I feel a bit guilty about it since I intend to use the yeast; I'm not given to waste. However, I plan to mix it with a yeast whose taste I prefer. That said, even if I loved the taste of B & M, I wouldn't purchase it again because of the problems with the container.

Great value for the money
With so many brands of nutritional yeast flakes on the market, it was really hard to choose. It came down to the price per ounce. This product tastes great and the flakes are huge. I use this product several times every day to manage low B levels and it's working great. Thanks!
