This product deserves a review for being a good value. I purchased and installed it just before a ride from Boston to Phoenix, and it worked out great. I could not bring myself to spend $1200 for a BMW topcase. It may be nice, but spending that much is just plain wrong, so I went with this option and saved myself a bundle.It looks ok. It can take a full face XL helmet. It has good storage, but is not oversized as some cases are. Overall it is a good topcase, there is not that much science put into a large plastic box, so spending a small fortune on one just feels wrong to me.The one downside I put in the sturdiness category. The case shell itself is fine, and feels ad good as many others. But the latch that closes and locks the case feels like it is the weak point. It is made of a hard plastic, the type that feels almost brittle, such as something that might crack on a cold day when forced into place. There is not much force on the plastic latch that hooks over the lip of the case and pulls it closed. So there is no immediate risk of it breaking, and it should not break during normal use. Where I picture it could break is when rushing to close an overstuffed case on a cold day (I have used it on many near freezing days). I tend to use my equipment harshly. So with this case I make a point to slow down and close it carefully, not forcing the latch, and I expect it will never fail that way. I do recommend this case, and would buy another for a newer BMW RT whenever I get to buy one, but I have 40k miles left in my current RT before it starts to show its age, and after those miles I expect this case will still be on the back.

I looked at several motorcycle trunks and read a lot of reviews before getting this trunk. That said, when I finally decided that I was going to purchase the trunk I failed to notice that I was getting the one that did NOT have lights. Given that the picture has lights and, indeed, the trunk has lenses (and once removed you can see the bracket/plastic shaped to receive a light fixture). But alas, NO light. I am in the process of searching for the lights to put in said brackets, but not much luck so far. It's only 2 more dollars to get the same trunk with lights - so I would have gotten that one had I been paying attention. Sort of my fault, but at the same time - it would be nice to have it clearly stated in the description that it does NOT have lights.That aside, the trunk is okay. When I put my backpack in there and have to squeeze it down it miss shapes the trunk and makes it hard to get it closed correctly and allow the latch to be secured.The latch is good and bad. It's good because of the ratcheting effect. You turn the lock, lift the lower part out and up and the top part tends to fall back or away and you can open the trunk, To close the trunk you lift the bottom part up and out and hook the top part on the ridge and push the bottom lever part (with the key in it) down. However, the top part is hidden from view and it's hard to always tell if the top part is hooked or not. Sometimes takes several minutes to get it latched with the backpack in there. Without the backpack it closes and latches easily.My KLR 650 has a solid plastic rack so I had to drill holes. I moved the trunk to the rear so I could still get to the tools in the front of the rack - and to give my passenger a little more room. The bracket just fits between the mounting bolts for my KLR rack. I wanted to be able to take it off without taking off the trunk bracket. I did take a hammer to the bracket to make a little more room for the nuts - just minor.On my first trip of 30 miles the bolts got very loose. I used a bungie cord to strap it to the rack to make sure it didn't come completly off. I used the lock nuts that came with the trunk, but they still vibrated loose. Once home I got another set of lock nuts from Lowes and put them on behind the first ones. So far that seems to hold. The KLR has a lot of vibration.I like that the trunk is easy to remove. The trunks I had years ago were mounted directly.It's not as tall as I expected, but it is wide and I'm not unhappy with the purchase. If it breaks I'll probably look for a different one, however, maybe a little taller and with an easier latching mechanism.

I installed this case on an ONYX rcr shorty moped. It its large but, this is a decently made trunk compartment. The latches are definitely not going to stop a persistent thief, but will insure your items stay intact. It also offers a higher field of visibility from fellow motorists = safer drive. The mounting plate has multiple points allowing me to determine the right position for strength and security. It holds a tremendous amount of items and with a simple gasket addition, it should stand to be water resistant as well. My wife appreciates the subtle back rest too. This makes a simple pic-nic on a motorbike successful.**update to my previous review.After multiple rides and one unfortunate fall, this case had stood up very well. It even took the brunt of the weight/damage from my bike falling over, and it held up with just a couple scuffs...meanwhile preserving the expensive parts.

Cheap plastic I could probably punch through. Mounting system is too small as well as held in position by two cheap plastic lugs and a metal catch that doesn't catch. The latch is also incredibly awkward and it can only be opened by locking and unlocking it. The front to back measurements are also incorrect as the cut out for the latch decreases the usable space by a couple inches. I'd say this would be worth it if it was $40.
