I used this is my shrimp tank with live plants. Just upgraded to a 20gal tank. Used 2 8.8lb bags that gave my tank 3 inches of soil. I plan to grow baby tears before adding water and fish. Appearance is black and pretty. Easy to vacuum but don't mix because the color will run.

I haven’t put any plants in yet so I can’t speak for that, but I love the look so much and it was easy to put in. The dust settled about 24 hours after.

I used one bag for a 60 litre tank, I probably needed a bit more for a slightly thicker layer but the plants are doing well. I was in the middle of cycling my tank when I decided to change the substrate to this, I had the tank running for about two weeks and had high nitrate and nitrite levels but the day after adding this both ammonia and nitrite were 0.

I was pleased with how this helped with my water levels but with the water always in motion it's coated my plants and decor with a layer of dirt/brown. It also stained my crayfish a bit- but he loves picking the pieces up. Absolutely going to have to buy something to cap it with
