Q: Does it have any smell. I bought a brand at cvs and smelled like menthol/bengay...?

fresh out of the package it does have a slight latex smell, which is to be expected as it is a latex product. but after a few minutes it does not smell strongly, if you got it next to your nose it will still smell. I did notice only a couple smelt stong, and that may be because they were still warm from the amazon locker i picked them up from.

Q: Can it be used for my thumb?

Sure, like any elastic bandage could. Careful though. Go online to learn how to wrap your thumb so you don't do more damage.
