My Niece Loves Teddy
So, I had an original Teddy Ruxpin way back in the good ole 80's and my Mother asked me to order one for my 1 year old nieces birthday. I loved my old Teddy Ruxpin and looked into getting her one of those but saw the price and thought no way. Then I discovered the new Teddy Ruxpkin, the one I purchased here. My first gut reaction was those eyes are creepy as.... well you know where I am going with this. Aside from the creepy eyes Teddy is totally cute and looks somewhat similar to the original. The technology has improved so much since the 80's I knew the interactive part had to be better and from what my brother has told me it is. He comes with stories pre downloaded on him and you can easily downloads an app to most devices and install more.As for those creepy eyes, she absolutely loves them! She stares into Teddy's eyes like he is a master cult leader and she is his number 1 follower. She gets completely mesmerized by those big, blue, creepy, fake eyes and listens to every word that comes out of his mouth. So, overall I think that this is a great purchase for any toddler out there. Teddy is cute, cuddly, and extremely durable. The songs and stories he shares allow children to learn while their having fun at the same time. I am very happy with this purchase and happy to say that Teddy is one of my nieces favorite toys just like the original was mine back in the day.

Nostalgic wonderful encourages young minds the want to read 5 stars !
Bought as a gift really for nostalgia for us, as this was a very popular toy we had as children. Its a great product it works with tablets and does read books. It was a hit for about a week. It may be a little too complicated for a young child to remember how to operate with their tablet, but we keep taking it out and re introducing and it gets used. We keep the eye mask around Teddy's neck always so we do not loose it. My husband and I love looking at it and watching it. It is smaller than the original but still brings back wonderful memories and I am a big fan for anything that encourages young minds to enjoy reading as well as to encourage the want to read. P.S the eyes are not creepy as our parents used to say they were possibly they have changed them. I do not have my original and have not seen one in years.

The bear is pretty good. My daughter loves the eye animation
The bear is pretty good. My daughter loves the eye animation, the stories are the same as the original, but the app seems a bit buggy on Apple. It requires syncing to the bear nearly everytime you turn it on and sometimes it can crash the app though not too often. Like others have said it would be nice to just be able to read the stories on the app sometimes though it does have some upgrades to the old books. Comparing with the old books (I still have them thanks to my parents) the words are written on the app pages so you can read along which you can’t do with the original books and some of the books are animated a bit. Also the app has trouble with purchasing bundles, It is really buggy on purchases on Apple. I do like that the bear is only three simple buttons for small kids. Choose your story, pause/play and skip a song or chapter. A young child may need a little help to get the app going though. It would also have been nice if it had a rechargable battery and a way to plug him in. (He doesn’t come with a usb cable even though he has a hole. The hole is there for updating someday if they decide to add more stories and looks to be a standard mini usb). But on the whole he was cheaper than restoring the old one, he sounds a lot better too, and despite what others may say about him not looking like the original, I find him cuter and definately softer. I find him well worth the $50 I paid on clearance. He is good for nestalgia and for a fun way to do a bedtime story. It also lets me put away the singing Christmas snowman my daughter uses to get to sleep... I like Christmas music... but every night is a bit much. And unlike the snowman Teddy is a lot quieter.

Teddy Ruxpin is back and better than ever!
I Bought this as a gift for Christmas. The Teddy Ruxpin of the '80s seemed to be a little larger but other than that the new adaptation is wonderful. My son had one as a child and now his 3 year old daughter has one and loves "Teddy"! It was truly heartwarming to watch my son show his daughter this toy and tell her all about it. The only letdown is they don't have a full sized interactive "Grubby" as they did in the 1980'sYou need 4 - AA batteries on hand for Teddy. Before gifting this toy I advise you to take him out of the box so he is ready for play. Also to update his firmware just in case it's needed. He comes with some songs and 3 books already loaded on in memory. It is very easy to connect him via bluetooth and download more books to Teddy's memory. I chose to add the Birthday and Christmas book for my granddaughter. This bear is easy to use and lots of fun for kiddos and their parents who had Teddy as children!

A few things consumers need to know... the eye mask is in a pocket in his vest
I like most commenters on here, bought this Teddy for Nostalgia reasons. Here’s some perspective. Those of us who had the original, had parents pay $75 dollars for the bear which only came with one tape and book. In today’ s market $75 dollars is closer to $150. So for those complaining that they have to buy additional stories, well this is no different than the OG Teddy, who had to have book/tape sets bought extra. If you do the math, if you purchase the bundle, each story comes out to about $3.57, which is probably a lot cheaper than having to buy the original book/tape combo. Here a tip. If you want a physical book, the original stories haven’t changed. You can buy them on eBay for a reasonable price. As for the eye mask, I surmise many didn’t read directions about syncing , etc. The infamous sleep mask is in a pocket on Teddy’s back. My son hasn’t put it down since he’s had it. Do we also need a Book to listen to a story? How about using some imagination. My son literally woke up with a nightmare last night and turned Teddy on to tell him a story. I think there are some very unfair reviews because others may not have read directions. I hope that Wicked Cool Toys comes out with additional stories and characters, most importantly Grubby. Bring back Grubby.
