Works well. Plug-in going to the phone could be longer.
This does work very well. For those whose latest phone upgraded involved the loss of a headphone jack, this will get you fixed up. The headphone jack works well and the sounds come through clearly. But the big BONUS... you can plug in a charging cord too. The entire plug is the width of my phone. You can plug the adapter in with the headphone and charging cable both plugged in and if, for some reason, you wish the headphone was on the other side or the charging cord was on the other side, just remove the adapter and turn it around 180 degrees and plug it back in. Yes that should be obvious - just keeping all bases covered here. All these adapters fail to take into account that only a fool would walk around with his extremely expensive cell phone not clad in a protective case. As a result most of the plugs on adapters could use more length to accommodate the phone case. Just 1/16th or 1/8th an inch would really help. But you know what? I just tried my expensive charging cable. The entire plug surrounding the small connector fits completely within the space of the jack opening once the weatherproof Otter Box plug is swung out of the way. And that cable's plug is even worse than this adapter! All that said, there have been occasions when the adapter falls out - but that doesn't happen very often and my bet is that NOBODY'S cable or adapter has a plug any longer than this adapter has. (I just wish that cell phone manufacturers would bring back standard headphone jacks!)

Diamond in the rough
I've had bad experiences with non-namebrand adapters like this in the past.Haven't needed one in awhile and my friend was recommending that I get the apple usbc-3.5, because it was the golden standard apparently. I bought that as well as this one. They both arrived at the same time and I instantly didn't like the apple one upon first impressions of the design. The cable was flimsy and felt like it was going to tear if I just looked at wrong. This one is no awkward wires or anything obviously, it feels very quality, and has a satisfying click for every port.I tried to apple one first to get a base line to compare to this one. With the apple one, I had the volume all the way up and it sounded like it was a little under half.I plugged this one in and hit play and nearly blew out my eardrums. After turning it down, I could really enjoy the music. It was crystal clear and sounded fantastic.I'm currently writing this review while it's being used for both music and charging. Still sounds just as great and my phone is detecting fast charging.Highly recommend.

USB-C Adapter Functionality
Bought for IPad so 3.5 earbuds could plug in when traveling. Unfortunately this did not work with the protective cover, would have to remove every time which could weaken the cover over time. This did work on my iPhone because I have a wallet case and it has a thinner holder. I did notice It worked best if only one cord is plugging at a time.

Not for Apple TRRS microphones
This item works for output, but microphone in strips all frequencies above 7000Hz on my iPad (A16) making audio from microphone sound dull and flat. I know this because I use a calibrated microphone for test and measurement. Testing the two microphones I use this way works fine with the genuine Apple adapter.Audio output seemed to work and sound good.

Perfect if you don't have a phone with a jack portal
My newer phone did not have a headset jack, but my preference is to use a lightweight headset when on the airplane instead of ear plug type inserts. I like what I currently have, wired, not wireless. I found this and thought the price was reasonable. It connects in your charging port, has a very low profile only adding about 1/2 inch to the length of your phone, and you can also charge your phone on the opposite end you plug your jack into while you're using your headphone. I'd have included a picture but don't have another phone/camera to use other than mine lol. The sound quality was great, no static or pops.

Does not work with Apple ear buds, poor microphone quality with other ear buds
Playback sounds fine, but does not work at all with the microphone on Apple earbuds; It just records a constant buzzing noise. The same set of Apple earbuds work well on a different adapter...I've tried non-Apple ear buds and found that the microphone works, but quality is lacking. The same non-Apple ear buds work well with other USB C to 3.5mm adapters...
