Hi, as a regular (and very satisfied customer) I can confirm that this is a thin, transparent (completely colourless) liquid. It's not a gel. The (plastic) bottles have nozzles set into their necks which prevent spillage, so the user has to gently squeeze the bottle to project a thin jet of the fuel into whichever appliance it's being used for. I like this safety feature. Even if you knock a bottle over, you lose practically no fuel. We run the alcohol-burning stove on our boat with this fuel; it's chemically much 'cleaner' than meths (and doesn't contain any toxic methanol, unlike a lot of 'bioethanol' fuels from other suppliers), has much less smell, and is a lot cheaper. Service from BiofiresIreland Ltd, their response to very detailed customer enquiries (mine) and delivery times have all been excellent. Highly recommended. I hope this helps.

I have been told from another source that the liquid burns hotter than the gel and to ensure your heater is suitable to use liquid or it could cause damage to the heater. If you are unsure it's probably wise to not use liquid but continue to use gel.

Q: How long will a litre last with a single burner fireplace please?

So, I use the fire for a bit of warmth and ambiance. I probably have it burning for an hour to two hours a night in winter and I go through 12 bottles a month roughly. I think this ia fantastic product. I have been using for about 7 years. It makes a lovely yellow flame for the most part of the burn and doesn't need chimney. It does a create a slight odour and you need to keep a window slightly open if possible. I love this product.
