Extremely Engaging
My husband is going to be retiring soon and we've decided to investigate Real Estate investing as our next joint project. Although we have family members who are Real Estate professionals, he and I only have the familiarity with buying and selling Real Estate that we gained via buying and selling a succession of family homes. So, I decided to start reading about Real Estate investing to figure out if this is something we really want to do, and Marty Boardman's was the first book I read. It is easy to read, but full of really solid basic information. It is perfect for someone like me who needs foundational information. I don't know that it would be useful for an experienced investor, but that's not the target audience. The book is broken down into the four areas of flipping houses and explains each one in great detail. If you're looking for a basic how to get started, this book will definitely be helpful.

Author Gets It - One can still be Successful in the Post-Boom Era!
I absolutely loved this book - finished in a couple of days between classes at ASU. I was excited before even reading it because it was nice to find something on Amazon that was written for and after the housing bust. This book did not let me down - I'm a very systems oriented individual and I loved how Marty made his business plan very clear to the novice investor. He breaks down his business into 4 boxes - Acquisition, Rehab, Sales, and Raising Capital. I especially enjoyed the `Raising Capital' section because this is a concept that most real estate books seem to ignore. In any business you need to raise money to truly realize your profit potential. He has some nice ideas on how to raise money that don't involve boasting of being a guru that will make someone a 300% return! And finally this book just felt real - he highlighted his struggles and how he bounced back to become even stronger. The way he conveys his thoughts shows he is a common man who really just went after it. It gives hope to me that I don't need to have a perfect IQ to be successful in real estate investing - just a strong work ethic, humble attitude, and willingness to learn more about the profession every day. Five Stars!

Good book to cover basics with some good advice.
This is a quick book to get through even though it covers a lot. Most of the advice is well considered and it seems the author has a lot of experience. I found it a great review as I had been out of the field since 2007 and wanted to catch up on some of the new practices in the field. It is a little light on what it's like to actually find a property to work with (IMHO), but does shed a lot of light on the purchasing and flipping process.

Perfect book for a new investor
I found this book from Marty Boardman's articles on BiggerPockets.com. I enjoyed his stories, humor, and real world knowledge. If you're new to real estate, you should check out biggerpockets and Marty's blog. Some of his posts there are in this book, so it's a good way to know if you'll enjoy the book.Marty breaks Rehabbing into four boxes, or categories: Acquisition, Rehab, Sales, and Raising Capital. Each of these categories has examples, stories, mistakes, and the nitty-gritty details you need to succeed in rehabbing. He doesn't hold anything back or try to sell you a $400 course or coaching seminar at the end like so many others in this industry.I now feel confident that I understand the process and steps it takes to rehab a property in this post-boom market. To be honest it's a lot of hard work and this book takes the glamour out of it. If you're looking for the sexiness of fixing and flipping, stick to reality TV and keep telling yourself "that looks easy, I could do that." It's not, and this book helps you understand upfront exactly what you're getting yourself into.

A MUST Read for any future flipper
Marty Boardman came through with an excellent book on flipping real estate. There are so many books on this topic that are theoretical, providing plenty of motivation, ideas, and vague mottos but totally lacking any how-to substance. That isn't the case in this book. The author goes through the entire process, from early research and preparation, to finding properties and giving suggestions on what to look for and what to avoid, progressing through the purchase and repairs, and concluding with the eventual sale.He doesn't hide anything, this book bares it all on the table. Best of all, it is one of the few books on this subject written after 2008, so it covers newer technologies, reasearch aides, and buying procedures. I've read a lot of real estate books and I'm comfortable saying this is one of the best you'll find if your goal is to start flipping properties.

Left me wanting for more.
I am a Realtor and aspiring property flipper. I have read several books on this topic and have met with several local real estate investors to pick their brain on the ins and outs of flipping. This book does give a solid overview of flipping and I appreciate the author's warning that this is a business that will require lots of time and effort (and money). But most of his stories and anecdotes left me wanting for more details and specifics.I already have a good grasp of the basics and am looking for a step by step blueprint to help me put systems and procedures in place to successfully complete my first flip and establish a solid foundation going forward. I felt this title was lacking in that area.Again this title was a good overview, but I thought "Fix It and Flip It" by Katie and Gene Hamilton was a more in depth offering.

Great book!
I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. I put post it notes on pages I want to refer back to. Ironically, I have well over 30 post it notes in this book! Marty is a great writer so this book was an easy read. I wanted a book that was recent and discussed strategies that are working now/today. This book has a 2013 copyright. I live in the Phoenix area so it was an added bonus that he mentioned some local information. Marty explains the logic behind his recommendations which is helpful to me. He also breaks down the definitions for some of the esoteric real estate terms. In general he gives great practical application and guidance. I highly recommend this book and I would buy it again.
