Activated Carbon Fish Tank Filter Media for Aquarium and Ponds 2 KG

Q: Hi, I have a hood filter and was wondering if this carbon could be put in an old sock or tights near the output end of the filter tray?

I have an over tank filter positioned under the hood. The water, pulled out from the tank via the pump, first goes through some ceramic noodles. Then it goes through filter floss rolled around a fine mesh net bag containing this carbon, then it goes through some more noodles before the water is released back into the tank. This carbon does a great job cleaning the water. I clean my filter media in tank water once weekly, regularly changing the floss with fresh floss and changing carbon as I think necessary usually every couple of months or so. I also add a little waterlife, live bacteria to the filter's noodle media, to keep a good supply of growing bacteria after cleaning. And of course I use water conditioner (stresscoat). The carbon is good for removing nitrates but must be removed from filter before treating sick fish with medication. I hope this helps. good luck Gill

I don’t think there would be enough air flowing through the pellets unless you have a way of pumping air through them in some way. You can buy foam air filters with Activated Charcoal in them for ac units... Anyway, good luck with it and I hope that this helped!

Q: how big (size) is each piece?

There size is about 1.2 cm long and about .5 cm thick. Personally I find the slightly smaller size preferable but identifying it from the ads is difficult.

Q: Can i hang the carbon on the side of the pond instead of inside filter box

Hi there, sorry, but I can’t see how that would be effective. The carbon acts as a filter (in a way) to filter the water passing through the carbon particles. Hanging a bag of carbon in one spot wouldn’t be much different from hanging a sponge filter in one spot - it wouldn’t filter much water would it! Hope this makes sense and helps you out :-)
