DO NOT BUY! - DEAD and UNRECOVERABLE in 4 MONTHS! // Update: Another DEAD 1 HR run time!
DO NOT BUY THESE DRIVES!UPDATE: 11.21.23 - I use these drives for primary my primary drive, and I clone to them as backup. i JUST HAD A CLONE GO BAD - low level I/O Error in Read Write with ONE HOUR UPTIME! >>>ONE HOUR<<< I think this whole batch of SanDisk 1TB drives is absolutely RUBBISH. I am replacing now with Crucial 1TB SSDs. This is intolerable, and since my drives are filled with sensitive data, I cannot send them away for replacement, etc.Wow, I am shocked and upset. I have had good luck with Sandisk SSD drives in the past. I installed this drive in an Acer 576g laptop. It was running perfectly fine until yesterday. Then, in the middle of the day, it being on and at idle, I come back to the machine and nothing - DRIVE NOT DETECTED, screen frozen. On reboot... no boot medium. I am a tech with +35 years experience with computers and BUILDING THEM FROM SCRATCH. I tried every trick in the book to get the SSD going (power only method, etc.) Nothing worked. Drive makes a little noise when connected to power, but that is it. ZERO WARNING BEFORE FAILURE. BOOM - No drive. Shocked this would happen with a drive just 4 months old. This has compromised my faith in SSDs and Sandisk in particular. I have some mechanical drives that date back from 1990, they still boot righ up like a charm. This drive failure caused me to have to completely reinstall Linux Mint 21.2 and restore back from my last save... which was UNFORTUNATELY several months ago! UGH! So, I lost a lot of important stuff, and I do not at all trust sending any drive with very sensitive information on it out for repair. No thanks. There should be a free tool we can run at home for every drive, not go to some small repair shop, or ship it away and get charged $500/1000 to get the data off, when all they are doing is using PC3000 to grab it in 10 minutes. SANDISK/WD Warranty and Customer service is pathetic. Terrible site. So upset and tired. I really love the performance of these drives but do yourself a favor, and clone these drives often to create a backup. I am using Parted Magic to do that... Works very well. I am wondering if the problem with these drives is their large size... Sandisk never had such an issue with smaller drives in the past.
