No- it is bigger than the one that comes with the machine. However- because the press is calibrated to the proper pounds of pressure- you get a great consistent tamp each time. Mine just sits on the silver grating of the machine

Of course, it is compatible with the full range of 8th generation Breville 54mm bottomless portafilter.

Yes, it leaves a ring patter in the coffee bed. I prefer a smooth surface, but the other aspects of this tamper still makes it my favorite.
